The MLKJ Video Contest is back! The theme this year is “Volunteering!”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was very engaged in serving others and inspiring people to serve and volunteer. As his famous quote says:

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?”

Every person can find a way to contribute to his community and his country. In the United States, January 18 is the “Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service” which inspires hundreds of thousands of Americans to come together to start a year of citizen actions.

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ― Martin Luther King, Jr.

How to participate in the contest:

Create a video that raises awareness of the importance of volunteering for your community and your country. You can film yourself singing or slamming. You can create a slide show, a story telling video or a short clip of an artistic performance (dance, graffiti, street performance…).

All videos will be judged on originality, effective expression of ideas and creativity. So be creative!

Important note: The video’s duration must be between 00:30 and 01:30 and must be in English or in Arabic or French and subtitled in English.

Prizes

The contest will end with three winners. The winning videos will be showcased on the U.S. Embassy Tunis Facebook page and website and the winners will receive prices as follow:

  1. First place:  “GoPro© HERO4 Black” + one English course at Amideast.
  2. Second place: “GoPro© HERO4 Silver” + one English course at Amideast.
  3.  Third place: “GoPro© HERO+ LCD” + one English course at Amideast.

Judging

All videos will be screened by an Embassy Review Panel to ensure compliance with contest criteria. The selection of the winner videos will be in two phases.

Phase 1: The Embassy Review Panel will select 8 to 12 semifinalists from all the eligible submissions. These selected videos will be posted on our Facebook page for a public vote.

Phase 2: People will have one week to vote for their favorite videos on Facebook using the “Like” feature. The final selection of the three winner videos will be based 50% on the number of likes on Facebook and 50% on the Embassy Review Panel’s feedback. Facebook likes will be very important and every one “Like” will increase your chance to win the contest.

The Embassy Review Panel will judge videos on originality, effective expression of ideas related to the subject, and creativity.

The winners will be announced publicly on the Embassy Facebook page and website by March 31, 2016.

– If the U.S. Embassy is unable to make contact with a potential winner, the winner will be disqualified and the committee will designate the next highest scoring video the new winner.

– By submitting your entry to this contest, you authorize the U.S. Embassy Tunis and/or the U.S. Department of State to use your video in any of its materials.

– If your video is not in English, it should be subtitled in English.

– Employees of the U.S. Mission to Tunisia and their immediate family members (spouses and children) are not eligible to participate.
