Background information/Organizational Context

(brief introduction on UNHCR and on the functional unit/office where the intern will be placed, highlighting the benefits of undertaking an internship):

The Associate intern will be based in the Country Office Tunis (Tunisia). She/he will be supervised by the Senior Emergency Coordinator initially then by the National Programme Officer. The intern will be integrated to the UNHCR team working on the main objectives to review and complete pending preparedness actions, including updated status of preparedness for all sectorial groups. The intern will support the office on research, preparation of material for meetings, presentations, including coordination tools. Weekly notes will be also produced.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Emergency Coordinator in his engagement with relevant partners (government, UN Agencies, NGOs, etc.) within their respective sectors of intervention in all phases of the emergency preparedness and initial response.
  • Review for all partners all available material and documentation on their capacity to support the emergency (within their owned planned activities).
  • Identify and update relevant contacts and focal points responsible for supporting emergency and the delivery of expected services.
  • Support the Senior Emergency Coordinator in reviewing documentation relevant to planned estimated costs, taking into account the reality of the local/national market.
  • Assist the Senior Emergency Coordinator in undertaking research on mapping the availability of services with
    relevant providers and locations.

Allowance

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help
to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • On-going studies or diploma in international Law, political science, international relations or another related international field work
  • Knowledge of French and English, Arabic is an asset.
  • Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
  • An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
