  • Context

ACEA Tunisia (Action Collaborative pour les Exportations Artisanales, or “Collaborative Action for the Export of Handicraft Products”) is a 5-year project funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by FHI 360. Its goal is to help artisans, especially those who are socially or geographically marginalized, to commercialize their products, and hence promote greater social and economic equity. Where possible, the project places a special emphasis on assisting artisans to export.

ACEA has launched several cluster development activities in three sectors in Tunisia: essential oils and related natural extracts (Northwest and central west Tunisia), olive wood kitchenware and tableware (in Sfax and Sidi Bou Zid) and weaving in (Toujene, Mednine).

ACEA is hiring a design agency to support improving current packaging for aromatic and medicinal plant under Wiki PAM brand. 

  • Project presentation

Wiki PAM (www.wikipam.org) is a cluster (a network of collaboration between several actors in the same value chain) that formed around the Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (MAP) value chain of Northwest Tunisia in 2018, with the help of the ACEA project to promote the production and commercialization of artisanal essential oils and related products from Northwest Tunisia. Wiki PAM’s stakeholders include women artisans making natural extracts and other PAM-based cosmetics, private companies selling the same products, public entities supporting this artisanal trade, universities and research centers, consultants, and finally donors. Along with the old and new members of the cluster, the total number is around 30 with 20 distinct products.

  • Objective of the mission

The agency will be requested to design the packaging for the Wiki PAM brand based on the first version. The Wiki PAM product line contains 4 main categories each one involving different varieties of products. 

  • Essential Oils (20 Products)
  • Hydrolat (20 Products)
  • Vegetal Oil (15 Products)
  • Dried Herbs (20 Products)

The agency is required to provide Packaging Solutions and recommendations for printing. The design should be aligned with the international market trends from targeted countries and regions (North America, EU and UK, Gulf countries, Japan, and Korea etc..), and support artisans to realize export transactions and promote Wiki PAM products for better online shopping experience.  

Some of our artisans obtained already ‘’ECOCERT’’ organic certification which will be included in the design based on specified guidelines. Other certificate labels will be added accordingly to the packaging once obtained. The designer should take in his consideration that the packaging of each product will include at least 3 to 4 certifications labels. 

This consultancy is aimed to 

  1. Improve the current design of Essential Oils, Hydrolats, & Vegetal Oils including external cartoon box and products stickers. 
  2. Design a new packaging container, stickers, and pack for Dried Herbs products 

  • Detailed description of deliverables 

The agency will update the content & improve the current Wiki PAM Brand packaging design for the essential Oil, Vegetal Oil, & Hydrolat products and Develop new concept including the design and the packaging for the dried Herbs.

With the Wiki PAM brand guidelines as reference, the agency is requested to develop a new packaging for all the brands’ products. The ACEA project will provide the detailed list based on The Wiki PAM brand 4 main categories: 

  • Essential Oils (20 Products)
  • Hydrolat (20 Products)
  • Vegetal Oil (15 Products)
  • Dried Herbs (20 Products)

Each product may contain up to 3 different sizes/weight. (Small, Medium, and Large).

The packaging is oriented for the global market therefore it must fit to the international standards and trends while reflecting Green, Eco-friendly and sustainable theme of the brand and the authentic identity of the artisans. 

  • The agency should provide the design file sources of the packaging that can be easily editable in case of specific market need.
  • The design of each product should be innovative and respect the coherence of colors, size, and external shape of all the products and reflect the rural life identity 

1- Essential Oils, Hydrolat, & Vegetal Oil:

Using the same current packaging, we aim to enhance and update the current design & content.

  • The external box:

Theme: The Authentic Tunisian Rural Life

 Infront: TERRA concept identity, Name of the product in English/ French, Brand Logo, Certificates Labels, weight, colorful & design reflect the Tunisian rural life

Back: Product description in 2 languages, Artisans’ Rural life images, Ingredient, Benefits, Barrecode, Made in Tunisia, Directions, Website & Source of certifications, Address, Phone, expiration date ect..

N.B: While doing the design please make sure to take in consideration that the design you will made will not go against the size and the shape of the oil containers.

  • The sticker of the container:

In Front: Product Name in 2 languages, certifications labels, Weight (FL Oz/ml), Brand logo.

Back: Product’s description in 2 languages, Ingredient, Nutrition facts, Barrecode, Made in Tunisia, Directions, Caution, Storage, Website & Source of certifications, Adresse, Phone, expiration date ect..

2- Dried Herbs:  

We will re-produce a new packaging special for the dried herbs as the current one is not compatible with the existing products in the international market. An update will include the current design and the content.

Mostly the packaging will be a cylindric glass container or healthy pack oriented for herbs, so we need 2 designs until confirmed.

Theme: the authentic Tunisian Rural life

Attractive shape, color, and design.

In Front: Name of the Product in English/French, Certifications labels, certificate labels, weight,

Back: small description about the product, ingredient, Nutrition facts, Ingredient, Source of Certifications, Store in a cool, dry and dark place, barrcode, weight, expiration date, source of manufacturing, Adresse, Made in Tunisia, logo of date of use, logo of recycling, QR code, ect…

  • The sticker of the container:

In Front: Product Name in 2 languages, certifications labels, Weight, Brand logo.

Back: Product’s description in 2 languages, Ingredient, Nutrition facts, Barrecode, Made in Tunisia, Directions, Storage, Website & Source of certifications, Adresse, Phone, expiration date ect..

  • Prototypes and 3D mockups

The agency should deliver:

  • 3D mockups for each product/size including detailed branding description.
  •  Provide samples (prototypes) for each product category to be reviewed and approved. 
  • Provide recommendations about, printing materials to be used (that are available in Tunisia) and standards to be applied in the packaging.

  1. Packaging samples
Provide samples (prototypes) for each product category to be reviewed and approved.  March 18, 2022
  1. Printing Manual
Provide recommendations about, printing materials to be used (that are available in Tunisia) and standards to be applied in the packaging. March 25, 2022

  • Pledge of commitment:
  • The delivery of the final Source files of each product 
  • Proofreading and multiple revision of the content and branding when needed
  • Printing samples to get approvals for each product
  • All deliverables must be submitted within the scheduled timeline
  • Requirements

The application must provide the following elements: 

  • Detailed technical and financial offer 
  • Portfolio of the agency with proof of relevant experience. The agency must have at least 5 years of experience in piloting similar missions and at least 3 references of similar missions preferably with international clients 
  • Written proficiency in English is required. French language proficiency is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Fair trade & organic products are preferred 

  • Remuneration

The agency will be paid based on a payment schedule incorporated into the service purchase order.

  • Criteria/Qualification for Evaluation 

Candidates will be evaluated and ranked by an evaluation committee according to the conditions described in the evaluation criteria below, with a total overall maximum point value of 100. The contract shall be issued to the agency with the highest combined technical and cost score.
