WORK HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/week

SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN-6 TD 21,792 Gross annual salary (Position is graded at the full performance level of Grade: FSN-06) Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): FP-8* US$ 31,614 p.a. (Starting Salary) *Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT (OR) APPLICANTS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.

The U.S. Mission in Tunis is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Purchasing Agent in the General Service Office.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Prepares purchase orders, miscellaneous procurement documents and paperwork including correspondence. Searches supply catalogs for procurement requests or makes telephone inquiries to local firms to ascertain the availability and price of items. Negotiates best price with vendors and ensures that the vendor can provide purchase items which meet the required product specifications and further ensure delivery within reasonable timeframes. Maintains post electronic records relating to purchases, files procurement documents and correspondence in accordance with office electronic filing procedures.

Typical items purchased by the Purchasing Agent include hardware, office supplies, furniture, construction supplies, maintenance supplies, tools, and in general, any items that can be purchased “off the shelf”. Serves as a Petty Cash Handler.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

  1. EDUCATION: Completion of secondary School is required.
  2. EXPERIENCE: One and one-half years of experience in purchasing or related clerical experience, of which at least one year should be in the purchasing, procurement or supply fields.
  3. LANGUAGE: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) English, French and Arabic are required
  4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to deal effectively and politely by telephone with merchants, colleagues, and personnel of the various agencies attached to the mission. Must be able to organize workload according to priorities and must be able to use major PC applications. A valid driving license is also a requirement
