BASE:                            Tunisia / Algeria (remote work)

 

DURATION:                 1 month with a possibility of extension

Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From there we deliver a portfolio of media projects, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.

 

Overall Purpose of the mission

 

The Training Assistant ensures the smooth delivery of the logistics of the planned training and mentoring activities for BBC Media Action in North Africa. This is a key position that focuses on coordinating the day-to-day running of the online scheduled courses. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interest in learning, training, coordination, international development, and media for development. 

The main role of the Training Assistant is to work closely with the project team, trainers’ pool and mentors and other BBC Media Action staff to support the delivery of the scheduled training programme online. This includes coordinating the day-to-day logistics and all communications with participants and the HR departments of our media partners (from enquiry through to post course follow up). 

 

Main duties and accountabilities:

 

  1. Coordinate the day-to-day logistics of the scheduled online training course.
  2. Be responsible for the preparation of the training meeting using Zoom platform and being comfortable using breakout rooms and other techniques for effective training and small group discussions.
  3. Coordinate and circulate through the breakout rooms to answer questions, give assistance if needed and monitor the discussions within the Zoom chat for online meetings.
  4. Be responsible for setting up the Zoom application for participants who have difficulties and are not familiar with using it, this includes updating and setting up instructions, uploading course materials if needed.
  5. Ensure effective preparation before and during course implementation including liaising with trainers to ensure course materials are shared with participants. 
  6. Answer e-mails and phone enquiries about scheduled online training courses and forward e-mails and phone enquiries about other services to BBC Media Action management team.
  7. Be the first point of contact for enquiries about scheduled online trainings.
  8. Provide and ensure effective communication with the participants before, during, and after the training and prepare attendance sheet.
  9. Ensure collecting feedback surveys and participants’ list for M&E and R&L purposes
  10. Coordinate between BBC Media Action team, the trainers, and the participants before, during and after the training.
  11. Support interpreted training courses that have an online component, as requested.
  12. Other duties assigned during the consultancy. 

 

Required skills, knowledge, and experience:

 

  1. At least one-year experience of planning and delivering trainings within the Middle East / North Africa region 
  2. Professional-level knowledge of software including the MS Office suite and videoconferencing
  3. Experience in organising events such as seminars, workshops, or conferences  
  4. Efficient and organised with good attention to detail
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  6. Fluent in spoken and written English, French and Arabic
  7. Excellent IT and formatting skills (Microsoft Office) 
  8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  9. Ability to work under pressure, to multi-task and coordinate between multiple partners/stakeholders and BBC Media Action.
  10. Problem solving and decision-making skills 
  11. Knowledge of/ interest in media landscape in North Africa, particularly in Algeria

 

 

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience: 

 

  1. Managed and organized complex online training courses with interpretation.
  2. Online training in contexts of low bandwidth and with trainees with limited digital literacy.
  3. Experience living and working in North Africa or the Middle East, ideally in the development and/or media field.
