About Spark

SPARK develops higher education and entrepreneurship to empower young, ambitious people to lead their conflict affected societies into prosperity.

SPARK is determined to increase the number of sustainable jobs and economic prospects for youth in post-conflict regions through the improvement of higher education and the development of the local private sector.


SPARK is currently implementing a three-year programme called LEAD: Local Employment for Africa Development. The program supports SME’s through tailored coaching, training and access to finance and markets. As part of its intervention, SPARK will provide capacity building and support to young entrepreneurs who recently participated in an Entrepreneurship Bootcamp that was held in January 2018, in partnership with Expertise France. The 13 young aspiring entrepreneurs have completed their business plans however, in order to secure funding and launch their business; they are required to conduct a market research study to validate their business idea and determine the viability of their project.

The training aims at equipping participants with the necessary tools and skills to:

  • Assess the feasibility of their business plan in their chosen field and region
  • Assess the sustainability of their business
  • Determine competitors and market segmentation, including how to analyse and structure industries and markets to transform their marketing efforts from vague, generic attempts to laser-guided precision

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The responsibilities and tasks of the trainer include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop the training content modules including any hand outs
  • Deliver the training to the participants, ensuring methodology includes interactive tools and activities, while also providing case studies and real examples/exercises.
  • Produce an end-of training report summarizing training (conclusions & recommendations) including participant feedback and evaluation.

By the end of the training, participants should be able to the following:

  • Understand how to conduct market analysis, including data collection methods
  • Have the ability to assess the feasibility of a business idea and test the market
  • Determine target customers and target market(s)
  • Identify competitors and determine unique selling propositions
  • Understand the financial and legal considerations of pursuing the business

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Marketing or a relevant field
  • Experience of conducting business or business owner
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to give clear instructions
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in delivering trainings in the required field
  • Experience in areas such as research, statistical data analysis
  • Interpersonal skills, with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Presentation skills - structuring and communicating ideas, using visual and other adequate tools
  • Facilitation skills - managing activities, eliciting contributions and learning in an innovative way
  • Hands-on attitude and willing to help out flexibly if required
  • Excellent verbal and written language skills in French and Arabic
