We are looking for a recent university graduate that is deadline-driven, self-motivated and media savvy individual who is passionate about cross-cultural dialogue and conflict resolution, to join our group of high-performing team players. You will work closely with the volunteer training and engagement team in Europe, and North America on implementing the online facilitation training and assisting with volunteer recruitment efforts. In this role you will perform a variety of administrative/support tasks essential to successful training implementation and evaluation, as well as communication tasks with the volunteer community. This position will be based in Tunis, Tunisia.
Soliya is a global non-profit headquartered in New York, that combines best practices for constructive dialogue with innovative use of new media technologies to shift the way societies resolve their differences from a confrontational & coercive approach to one defined by cooperation & compassion. Soliya aims to develop a diverse and global community of young adults who individually and collectively use new media and communication technologies to promote understanding and empathy within and between their societies. Our mission is global, but our current focus is on strengthening relationships and fostering cooperation between youth from Western and predominantly Muslim societies. Soliya’s Connect Program is a unique cross-cultural virtual exchange program that directly connects university students in North America, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia using a web-based videoconferencing application. Guided by Soliya-trained volunteer facilitators, participating students collaboratively explore issues that currently divide Western and predominantly Muslim societies by engaging in intensive, structured dialogue, and creating videos and other projects addressing relevant themes. Volunteers and alumni from the Connect Program also form the foundation for the Soliya Community, a vibrant and global network designed to inspire and empower a community of young people to promote cross-cultural understanding in their societies.
Soliya’s online facilitation training and practicum is designed to prepare volunteers for their roles in the Connect Program but also more broadly aims to equip a global community of youth with facilitation and conflict resolution skills that are applicable to a variety of conflict situations as well as the unique experience that the Connect Program offers. Via Soliya videoconferencing platform, Soliya facilitators are trained to engage participants in a constructive, respectful dialogue around pertinent global issues as well as discussion around culture, religion, politics, and identity. They learn how to recognize and manage group dynamics that allow them to create a safe space for dialogue that evokes critical thinking, collaboration, curiosity, and empathy. Facilitators are part of global network of conflict resolution/prevention professionals and are continually learning and honing their skills through peer-feedback/engagement, their continued involvement in the Connect Program, and additional training opportunities.
