Position Overview:

Soliya is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and tech-savvy individual who is passionate about cross-cultural dialogue and conflict resolution to join our group of high-performing team players.  You will work closely with the Program team in North America and around the world on implementing Soliya’s Connect Program, and use your communication, administrative and creative problem-solving skills to effectively support and manage our diverse volunteer community in Soliya’s virtual exchange program.  This position will be based in Tunis, Tunisia.

Soliya is a global non-profit headquartered in New York, that combines best practices for constructive dialogue with innovative use of new media technologies to shift the way societies resolve their differences from a confrontational & coercive approach to one defined by cooperation & compassion. Soliya aims to develop a diverse and global community of young adults who individually and collectively use new media and communication technologies to promote understanding and empathy within and between their societies. Our mission is global, but our current focus is on strengthening relationships and fostering cooperation between youth from Western and predominantly Muslim societies.

Soliya’s Connect Program is a unique cross-cultural virtual exchange program that directly connects university students in North America, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia using a web-based videoconferencing application.  Guided by Soliya-trained volunteer facilitators, participating students collaboratively explore issues that currently divide Western and predominantly Muslim societies by engaging in intensive, structured dialogue, and creating videos and other projects addressing relevant themes.  Volunteers and alumni from the Connect Program also form the foundation for the Soliya Community, a vibrant and global network designed to inspire and empower a community of young people to promote cross-cultural understanding in their societies.

In the last ten years, Soliya’s Connect Program has gone from being the idea of two young social entrepreneurs with backgrounds in new media and conflict resolution to an established organization with over 150 universities in 30 countries, connecting thousands of students worldwide.

Job Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Officer of the Connect Program, and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage the relationship with Connect Program volunteers by overseeing the communication and information flow with active facilitators and coordinating their logistical affairs,
  • Support, enable and motivate volunteers to lead constructive dialogue and effectively resolve group dynamics challenges,
  • Create, manage and update volunteers’ informational materials and related program content,
  • Implement the volunteer registration and scheduling process,
  • Coordinate volunteer refresher trainings and workshops,
  • Implement impact assessment tools for Connect Program volunteers, and work with the team to identify programmatic successes,
  • Perform an extensive array of administrative tasks as needed (update internal databases, track volunteer performance, etc.), and
  • Facilitate dialogue between students from Western and predominantly Muslim societies.

The position is a local hire in Tunisia, however qualified local and international persons are encouraged to apply.  Experience as a Soliya volunteer is preferred, and any dialogue facilitation experience is a plus.

  • Independence and self-reliance, with demonstrated ability to work with a multicultural team
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English and Arabic,
  • Strong attention to detail, with an ability to perform in a deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large amounts of data and develop effective tracking systems
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage projects independently
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor.
