Search in Tunisia

Search for Common Ground (Search)’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance, and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. We are searching for…

Search is currently recruiting for the position of Youth Policy Engagement Officer for the USAID-funded Ma3an program, implemented in partnership with FHI360. The Ma3an program aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved the capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Your contribution

The Youth Policy Engagement Officer will serve as a member of the Search-Ma3an technical team directly managed by Search, reporting to the Youth Policy Engagement Manager. S/he will participate in planning, organizing, and implementing the Youth Policy Engagement Camps, which will build youth’s capacity to engage with local officials and advocate for policy shifts that address youth issues at the community level.

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Support the implementation of the Youth Policy Engagement Camps by:

  • Supporting the identification of potential young camp participants;
  • Contributing to mobilizing a network of youth;
  • Supporting the selection of the young camp participants;
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with the Ma3an team and target community members;
  • Coordinating with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders as needed;
  • Drafting and submitting activity reports;
  • Assisting in logistical and administrative tasks related to the implementation of the camps;
  • Supporting in engaging and monitoring youth participants;
  • Assisting in facilitating camp sessions as needed;
  • Supporting in conducting technical research and improvement of methodologies, as needed.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration:

initial 12-month contract (CDD), extendable for up to 3 years, with a start date as soon as possible.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • BS/BA or its international equivalent in Education, Humanities, or a related field; Master's Degree preferred;
  • A minimum of 2 years’ professional experience with at least 1 year in a technical role in donor-funded programs related to community development, youth engagement, peace education, or civil society strengthening.
  • Experience with USAID rules and regulations and experience working in an international NGO environment highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with conflict mitigation approaches;
  • Strong understanding of the political and social context in Tunisia;
  • Fluent in written and oral Arabic and English. French would be a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in youth engagement and peacebuilding;
  • Excellent coordination, communication (verbal and written) and networking skills;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile information from various sources;
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work independently;
