Position Title: Senior Accountant

Reports to: Finance & Administration Director

Location:Tunis

Background :

WWF began operating in Tunisia in 1994, and implements the WWF conservation program throughout the North African region to safeguard natural environments and the species that live in them, promote sustainable lifestyles, train decision-makers, support citizens in their efforts to reduce their ecological footprint, and contribute to the environmental education of young people.

 

  • Mission of the Department: 

 

WWF North Africa , is looking for an Accountant to be based in Tunis who will support the Finance & Administration and the departments Administrator on the fulfillment and execution of the accounting duties, tax and administrative duties related to the WWFNA environment conservation Projects as well as on the accounting, payroll, data entry and logistic administration duties of the WWFNA Tunis Office.

The Main functions will include (at minimum): 

 

  1. A) ACCOUNTING
  • Oversee the accounting and treasury functions of WWF NA
  • Ensure an environment of strong internal controls
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting cycles including closeouts, reporting and reconciliations. 
  • Supervise the data entry in the WWFNA accounting system (Sage100) according to all the Tunisian standard.
  • Prepare the legal registers as required by Tunisian law
  • Justify on a monthly basis the accounts (third parties, receivables, payables, intercompany transaction)
  • Ensure adequate archiving process of accounting documents and contracts and other related supporting documentation (electronic and hard copies)
  • Ensure overall alignment of all accounting and compliance in North Africa accounting according to duties and tasks as required by the national legal framework.

 

  1. B) TREASURY
  • Review, approve and facilitate all payments for the office. 
  • Oversee and ensure reconciliation for all bank and cash accounts
  • Ensure and supervise an adequate system for the travel advances, expenses management 
  • Quarterly establishment of the financial statements according to the accounting system of tunisian entities
  • Support on the administrative processes in relation to the WWFNA service providers ensuring the respect of WWFNA procurement rules (goods and services including consultation).

 

  1. C) PROCUREMENT

 

  • Review and approve all procurement recommendations, based on Approval threshold
  1. D) PAYROLL
  • Review the payroll calculation, payslip preparation, tax and social remittances respecting the national tax and social duties and requirements.

 

  1. E) AUDIT

 

  • –  Manage the whole audit process with auditors (meeting, provide information and required documentation)
  • – Prepare and develop an action plan in response to audit findings in collaboration with management team. 
  • – Ensure regular follow up of all risk mitigation activities in order to ensure alignment with auditors recommendations. 

 

Working Relationships:

Internal: Interacts regularly with the Finance and Administration Director and other staff in the F&A Unit  (accountants and project administrators)  and in general with the WWFNA Team in Tunis or  in the regional offices outside Tunisia.

External: Interacts with a wide variety of people, including partner organizations, external consultants, donors, banks, suppliers, external payroll consultant travel agencies, hotels, service and facilities providers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge:

A university degree in accounting is mandatory.

 Knowledge of commercial, tax and labor legislation in Tunisia (knowledge of legislation on non-profit organizations is an advantage).

 Advanced user of the accounting software (sage 100), of MS Office applications, with particular regards to the Excel spreadsheets, and payroll software. 

Experience:

At least 8 years of working experience in the accounting and Finance & Administration department in private or non-profit sector, accounting/audit or consultant firms. Experience in the non-profit sector is an advantage.

 

Skills and Abilities: 

Excellent organizational, leadership skills and computer skills, the ability to analyze, set priorities, complete work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines. This position requires initiative, flexible, friendly and cooperative personality. Interest in nature conservation would be an asset.  Fluency in English and French is required. Availability to travel.
