Regional project officer- TUNISIA

 

Position: Regional project officer
Location: Tunis, Tunisia
Application Deadline: 31-03-2024
Duration: 12 months with possibility for extension
Start Date: 01-05-2024

 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Manager, the Regional Project Officer is an early to mid-level expert with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful implementation and coordination of the AGILE programme at the regional level. The Regional Project Officer will work closely with project partners, stakeholders, and communities in the Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, and Kasserine governorates to facilitate the development of arboriculture value chains. This position requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in project management, stakeholder engagement, and coordination.

 

The Agri-business and Green Innovation for Local Employment (AGILE) programme is a 4-year initiative funded by the Netherlands embassy in Tunisia. This programme aims to create more, better, and more productive jobs for youth and women in rural areas. AGILE focuses on the development of arboriculture value chains in the Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, and Kasserine governorates.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

The responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the AGILE programme at the regional level, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project partners, stakeholders, and communities in the Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, and Kasserine governorates.
  • Work closely with local authorities, NGOs, and community leaders to promote engagement and participation in project activities.
  • Monitor project progress and milestones, providing regular updates to the Programme Manager and stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and selection of beneficiaries for project interventions, ensuring inclusivity and transparency.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to monitor activities, assess challenges, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to collect data, track progress, and contribute to project reports.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of capacity-building activities for project partners and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports, including narrative updates and success stories, to the Programme Manager and donors.
  • Contribute to the identification of lessons learned and best practices, supporting continuous improvement of project activities.
  • Represent the AGILE programme at regional meetings, workshops, and events as required.

 

Requirements and Skills

 

  • Diploma in a relevant field such as Agricultural production, Rural economics, development or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in project management, preferably in agriculture, rural development, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in managing projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of value chain development, particularly in the context of arboriculture or agriculture.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, coordination with partners, and community mobilization.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership when required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic or French is required.
  • Must be based or willing to relocate to one of the Areas of implementation (Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, or Kasserine governorates)
