EuroMed Rights is looking to recruit a Project Support Officer for a European Union-funded project Majalat II (hereinafter named “the Project”), aimed at enhancing and structuring dialogue between the EU and South Neighbourhood civil society. The position would be a one-year contract starting as soon as possible, with location at EuroMed Rights Tunis office.

About EuroMed Rights

EuroMed Rights was founded in January 1997 in response to the Barcelona Declaration of November 1995 and the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP). It is the coordinating body of about 80 human rights organisations and institutions as well as individuals from over 30 countries. EuroMed Rights’ organisational structure is built on a general assembly, an executive committee, working groups and a secretariat. 

Rooted in civil society the Network seeks to develop and strengthen partnerships between NGOs in the EuroMed region, i.e. networking aimed at strengthening the capacity of members to act and interact within the context of the region and the Barcelona process and other EU-Arab cooperation frameworks.

Description of Tasks

Under the overall supervision of the Lead Coordinator, the Project Support Officer assists the Project Coordinator in the implementation of EuroMed Rights’ activities and responsibilities as lead applicant of a consortium consisting of three regional civil society networks and organizations in the EU and its South Mediterranean Neighbourhood. The activities will engage regional and local stakeholders and ensure regional perspectives, and will take place in Tunisia and Morocco.  

The Project Support Officer will undertake the following tasks: 

  • Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, provides practical and logistical support for the organisation of EMR activities in the Maghreb region: trainings, thematic workshops, a South seminar, outreach missions (preparation of draft invitation letters, dissemination of invitations, organisation of travel and visas for participants, booking of catering services, venue, interpretation, etc.), in accordance with EMR internal policies and in liaison with relevant units;
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator, provides logistical support to the organisation of the Project Steering Committee meetings in Brussels;
  • Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, supports the recruitment of external experts/consultants for the project activities and ensure a follow-up of their activities and the timely delivery of quality results.
  • Assists the Project Coordinator in the selection and award of sub-grants: drafting of grant contracts, monitoring and technical assistance/advice to beneficiaries; 
  • Contributes to the drafting of narrative and financial reports, as well as periodic reports; 
  • Participates in various meetings, takes notes and drafts meeting reports; 
  • Works closely with the Communications Project Officer and other relevant units, and contributes to the overall visibility of the project by feeding the communication with data on activities; 
  • Contributes to the printing, translation, publication and promotion of materials and reports.

Profile, Skills and Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Human Rights, Law, or Political and Social Science – other degrees may also be considered;
  • Relevant work experience, including events management and administrative tasks for multi-faceted projects;
  • Experience and familiarity with civil society work will be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions and EU’s foreign policy, in particular towards its Southern Neigbourhood, and of human rights standards;
  • Knowledge of human rights, governance and rule of law issues in the region
  • Self-motivated, well-organised, keen attention to details, able to work independently and efficiently under pressure; 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Languages: excellent written and spoken English, and working knowledge of French and Arabic;
  • Computer literacy in Office suite and online conferencing tools (Zoom/Teams), and interest in digital security and IT/communication tools.
