Context
Under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer and the direct supervision of the Associate Protection Officer, the position will be responsible to assist strengthening the implementation of the specialized protection activities in Tunis, including outreach, assistance to unaccompanied and separated children, gender-based violence survivors and vulnerable migrants in need of specialized assistance

RESPONSIBILITIES

In particular, he/she will:

1. Assist in the planning and implementation of activities in IOM protection project portfolio, including financial, administrative, and technical aspects of related activities, in compliance with IOM policies and standards, as well as donor requirements.

2. Support with the strengthening and updating of referral pathways and mechanisms in the Tunis region for migrants.

3. Support organizing regular coordination meetings bringing together key partners operating in the field of migrant protection and assistance.

4. Support the coordination of Best Interest Assessments for Unaccompanied and Separated Migrant Children, including administrative and logistics aspects relating to Best Interest Determination meetings.

5. Support family assessment for Unaccompanied and Separated Migrant Children to determine sustainability of return, including liaising with various IOM missions in the country of origin and relevant teams in IOM Tunisia.

6. Support the development and implementation of outreach activities targeting migrants in Sfax, including cultural, educational, social and psychosocial activities, among others.

7. Support the drafting of monthly, interim reports, in line with donor requirements and IOM standards and procedures, hence contributing to timely submission in line with donor requirements.

8. Prepare regular briefings, summaries, press releases, visibility materials and other relevant information materials on project activities, when required.

9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelors’ degree in Social Sciences, Health, Psychology or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three (3) years of relevant professional experience or;

High School degree in the above fields with five (5) years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
  • Experience in the field of specialized protection (Child protection, GBV)
  • Experience working with international or non-governmental organizations
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable migrants in an advantage.
Skills
  • Strong communication skills are essential,
  • Knowledge of protection and determination of vulnerabilities
Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English, French and Arabic is required (oral and written).

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

  2. This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
