Who We Are

At IREX we strive for a more just, prosperous, and inclusive world—where individuals reach their full potential, governments serve their people and communities thrive.

But around the globe, persistent poverty, repression, and injustice prevent too many people form achieving their full potential.  To address these problems, we focus on people, not on vaccines, roads, or wells. We support individuals and institutions to create change in their own communities—and to create person to person bridges between nations.

IREX works with partners in more than 100 countries in four areas essential to progress: cultivating leaders, empowering youth, strengthening institutions, and increasing access to quality education and information.

The global, cross-sectoral USAID Youth Excel: Our Knowledge, Leading Change Activity will design and apply an approach to using implementation research to strengthen cross-sectoral positive youth development programming, help youth-led and youth-serving organizations use implementation research, and synthesize and promote findings broadly.

IREX is recruiting a Program and Grants Assistant in Kenya or Tunisia to support the regional grant portfolio and activity reporting. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Your Background and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, economics or finance, or other related fields.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working on youth-serving initiatives or in the development field in Kenya or Tunisia. Relevant experience and demonstrated interest in grant management support for partners in the areas of finance, compliance, and reporting.
  • Demonstrable excellent quantitative skills for management of financial and/or monitoring and evaluation data.
  • Experience directly supporting monitoring and evaluation (M&E), research, and adaptive methodologies will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of USAID compliance and experience with USAID-funded programs preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and comfort using digital payment systems and databases.
  • French language skills a plus.
  • A demonstrated commitment to youth inclusion, particularly focusing on marginalized and underrepresented groups.
  • An adaptable, growth mindset, and creative/entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • You must have unrestricted work authorization to work in Kenya or Tunisia

Your Daily Tasks:

  • Support the publication and management of requests for applications for new partner selection processes.
  • Contribute to partner risk assessments (reviewing organizational capacity and past performance) and budget development (preparing local cost estimates, reviewing budgets).
  • In collaboration with the technical lead for the partner’s activity, provide financial and administrative support for the management and monitoring of the grant, including review of reports/deliverables and financial documentation, conducting site visits, and compliance training and enforcement.
  • Manage webinar and meeting logistics, take minutes, and support communications with partners.
  • Track and organize grant documentation for audit readiness.
  • Process payments to partners.
  • Support the MEL onboarding of implementing partners.
  • Support the MEL capacity building of implementing partners.
  • Support the collection, cleaning and aggregation of routine monitoring data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We conduct background checks on all successful candidates.
