Scope of Work

FHI 360 is implementing the Department of State Collaborative Action for Handicraft Exports (ACEA) project in Tunisia. In partnership with the National Office of Handicrafts (ONAT), the goal of this project is to foster more competitive handicraft value chains in Tunisia, leading to long-term sustainable economic growth, increased exports, and increased employment.

This goal would be achieved through a technical support to three handicrafts value chains, including the initiatives of three clusters:

  • Wikipam, Aromatic & Medicinal plants – Northwest of Tunisia
  • Oleart, Olive wood accessories & art – Sfax and Sidibouzid
  • Amazigh Weaving – Toujane, Gabes.

The ACEA project is offering the opportunity for two masters’ students, seeking to conduct their end of studies professional project in the field of sustainable product design and development for during a four-month internship.

The ACEA project is looking for two graduate students for the following tasks:

A-  Research international trends in product design, namely in the US, for export collections

B-   Develop product designs for export and support artisans in creating new products

C-   Develop sustainable, creative, and cost-effective packaging designs for the products

These tasks will be conducted for the following clusters:

1.    Olive wood products – Oleart brand

2.    Handmade Amazigh carpets and rugs – Ragma brand

As packaging designers, the student will work to develop functional, eye-catching products and packaging designs that are aligned with the brands identities, resonate with the products target market, and comply with international health and safety regulations and standards.

The students should have a good eye for style and a knowledge of packaging regulations. They should be able to analyze market trends and create products and packaging that are trendy, eye-catching and functional.


  • Evaluating market trends and analyzing similar products and packaging designs.
  • Brainstorming products and packaging ideas using hand sketches, and design software.
  • Coordinate with artisans to ensure the feasibility of the new products’ designs.
  • Ensuring packaging designs accurately represent the brands.
  • Selecting functional ideas and creating products and packaging mock-ups.
  • Contribute to the organization and facilitation of product design and trends workshops
  • Identifying suitable packaging materials and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Collaborating with graphic designers and copywriters to finalize packaging text and graphics.
  • Completing final mock-up designs using computer modeling software.
  • Presenting final designs to stakeholders.
  • Assist with the delivery of technical assistance where relevant
  • Understand, support, and comply with internal organizational policies.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Ongoing master’s degree in industrial design, graphic design, art, architecture, space design or a similar field.
  • Marketing experience would be preferable.
  • Excellent command of graphic design tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French or English. Both highly desirable
  • Excellent command of Microsoft tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrative sensitivity and understanding in a cross-cultural environment
