Background information/Organizational Context

(brief introduction on UNHCR and on the functional unit/office where the intern will be placed, highlighting the benefits of undertaking an internship):

The intern will be based in the Country Office Tunis (Tunisia), she/he will be supervised directly by the Associate Community Based Protection Officer. In line with the overall protection strategy for the Tunisia operation, objectives for the incumbent will be guided and approved by the APO (CBP) CO Tunisia.

Monthly planning schedules will be made based on the operational direction and priorities. The caseload registered in Tunisia consist of profiles with extreme vulnerabilities. The operation also registers cases of women at risk, and persons with legal and physical protection needs. Under the direct supervision of the APO (CBP) in Tunis the intern will support the case management and community based protection activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to capacity-building initiatives for communities, including children, adolescents and youth to assert their rights and to strengthen community-based initiatives.
  • Contribute to the identification of extremely vulnerable individuals (EVIs), monitoring and reporting, and other overlapping themes in protection.
  • Participate with partners and the APO (CBP) in group counseling for adolescents and youths, and in the analysis of the POCs situations and needs.
  •  Conduct research and support in mapping of service providers to facilitate inclusion of persons of concern into
    national institutions and schemes
  • Support in training staff and partners on case management SOPs and ensure implementation along with the
    APO (CBP)
  • Ensure to document activities and report to the protection unit on needs and challenges,
  • Support in drafting the monthly activities of the protection unit, mainly community based protection fact sheet.

Allowance

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help
to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • On-going studies or diploma in Law, political science, international relations or another related field
  • Knowledge of French and English
  • Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
  • An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
