IOM LIBYA MISSION IN TUNIS (OPEN TO INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CANDIDATES)

Position Title: Public Information Assistant

Duty Station: Tunis, Tunisia

Classification: G5

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term for 6 months with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision by the Public Information Officer, the incumbent is responsible for providing support when it comes to public information and communication related assignments.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized assistance in the production and delivery of periodic communication materials in response to the communications strategy in order to provide transparency with donors and other relevant counterparts for all IOM’s projects carried out in the country. This includes press briefings, reports, visibility materials and newsletters, among others.
  • Provide inputs for enhancement of the communication strategy
  • Compile and produce information, from all IOM’s projects, to be published in the website and social media so as to keep it updated.
  • Assist the PI Officer in the development and execution of sub-regional fundraising campaigns, focusing in diaspora and the private sector
  • Monitor project visibility compliance
  • Draft press brief notes and other relevant communication documents, including articles and blog posts
  • Assist with graphic design related tasks including infographics and videos
  • Follow up and monitor the daily news flow in Libya
  • Gather information and assist on the preparation of, sub regional level and country level, reports to be disseminated with the media, relevant counterparts and stakeholders so as to broadcast all the project’s progress.
  • Coordinate field visits in order to find human stories that will show the progress made by IOM’s projects in the country.
  • Coordinate with all of the Project Managers the visibility activities to be carried out in the country.
  • Provide logistical support and reporting so as to deliver an internal press briefing note and photo records per each relevant event.
  • Informally translation documents from English to Arabic and Arabic to English.
  • Assist on emergency response reporting
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the RMO and Procurement Officer.
  • Undertake any other duties within the incumbent’s.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor degree in social sciences, public administration, or international relations with at least three years of relevant professional experience
  • Previous experience of working on communication in Libya
  • Demonstrated capacity to understand and analyze the national, regional, and local political context
  • IOM functional competencies: effective communicator with a wide range of actors and partners, successful cross cultural facilitator and active learner
  • Experience of social media, video recording and interview techniques would be an asset
  • Previous experience of international organizations
  • Fluency in English and Arabic Working knowledge of French is advantage
