Northern Ireland Co-operation Overseas (NI-CO) is a not for profit, public body owned by the Northern Ireland Government. Established in 1992 with the aim of showcasing UK best practice on an international platform and promoting UK participation in international development. Direct links with Government departments and public sector institutions allow NI-CO to offer its client base a unique mix of practical training, institutional capacity building and consultancy in a diverse range of areas from Governance and Accessible Justice to Healthcare and Regulatory Services.
NI-CO’s core value is to take an integrated, partnership approach to all our mentoring, training and institutional capacity building programmes. Our key objective is to share and transfer skills rather than impose solutions or create dependency. Unlike the classic consultancy model, NI-CO choose to deploy experienced ‘practitioners’ – as opposed to ‘consultants’ – who can work alongside their direct counterparts overseas in a co-operative and mutually rewarding environment. Across South Eastern Europe, Asia, Middle East and Horn of Africa, NI-CO practitioners have worked with Government officials, youth workers and senior police officers to bring the police and public together to prevent crime, bring offenders to justice, collaborate on interagency problem solving and improve the quality of life regardless of their background.
NICO is recruiting a Local Project Coordinator to help deliver a Dutch growing project portfolio of security sector reform, CVE projects in Tunisia. This role will likely focus on coordinating the delivery of activities on the current Dutch-funded Community policing project. Since January 2017 the Netherlands has supported the implementation of a pilot, which seeks to develop Tunisia’ security sector capacity to achieve ‘proof of concept’ for the benefits of community engagement. It is being implemented in two districts of Jendouba and in Tabarka, in northwest Tunisia, alongside providing support to central and local levels for the purpose of strengthening the relationship between the community and the security sector.
The successful candidate will have 1+ years of post-qualification experience in the international development space, ideally in relation with the security sector. A proven track record of successfully coordinating projects for international donors; and experience working with youth in Tabarka in partnership with public and local institutions.
We are looking for someone who is based in Tabarka, enthusiastic about taking on a challenging, fast-paced role with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who is comfortable working with multi-national teams.
Stakeholder mapping and engagement in TABARKA:
