Médecins Sans Frontières, Holland Section (MSF-H) has been present in the Central African Republic since 1997 and has implemented, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, emergency medical assistance projects for populations directly or indirectly victims of violence, displaced, affected by epidemics or natural disasters.
The Headquarters Agreement signed on 25 July 2016 between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Central African Republic and the International Medical Humanitarian Organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” defines the legal framework for collaboration between the two partners.
MSF-H has been present in Bambari (Ouaka Prefecture) since April 2014 to support health facilities in the health districts of Bambari and Grimari. The support concerns the Regional University Hospital of Bambari (HRUB), as well as 10 health facilities including 2 health centers (Kidjigra and Elevage), 2 health posts (Ngakobo and Goya), and 6 points of treatment of malaria in the health districts of Bambari and Grimari-Kouango.
The support to the Regional University Hospital of Bambari, (HRUB) consists in an emergency triage, assessment and stabilization (ETA), the management of pediatric patients, the provision of emergency surgery (in the operating room and post-operative care), and in the intensive therapeutic feeding center (ITFC).
In order to strengthen its support for the hospital in 2019, namely for medical imaging, MSF has equipped the Bambari hospital with a new digital radiology device and intends to make it operational during the month of June. For this, three new radiology technicians will be recruited and trained locally on the radiology technique and protocol, including 1 MSF-H staff and 2 MOH staff. A radiologist referent from the headquarters is expected to be on the ground for the installation of the x-ray machine and start training the new staff, then an international radiologist technician will be needed to continue the training over a period of three months.
To undertake routine training and evaluation visits to MSF missions with dedicated X-ray departments. To develop skills and competencies within these departments, (e.g. use of equipment, quality of x-rays, radiation protection), with the objective of facilitating improved medical care.
In the field, the radiographer / X-ray technician is under the functionally accountable to the Medical Coordinator and hierarchically accountable to the Project/Field Coordinator.
At the end of the visit, a report will be sent to the Medical Coordinator, Project/field coordinator, Health Adviser and Intersectional Diagnostic Imaging Advisers.
