About DIGNITY: 

DIGNITY’s vision and activities in the MENA region involve: 

– Reducing the number of those at risk of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment (CIDTP). 

– Similarly reducing other forms of violence, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). 

– Supporting victims in accessing reparation of these human rights violations. – Securing the right to rehabilitation for victims by improving access to high-quality, trauma informed Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). 

DIGNITY has been working in the MENA region for the past 15 years through multiple partnerships with local organizations in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan (i.e., 4 of the ‘focus countries’ which fall under the Danish Arab Partnership Program (DAPP). 

Throughout this period, DIGNITY has supported its civil society partners to provide MHPSS and emergency support aligned with each partner organization’s remit. This approach is to be continued throughout 2022-2027, including the embedding of MHPSS in the public health sector, where appropriate. 

DIGNITY´s existing International Programs Clinical Team is based in Copenhagen and includes one physiotherapist and three psychologists. DIGNITY also operates a torture rehabilitation clinic at this location through which we provide interdisciplinary support to refugees in Denmark affected by trauma. 

About the Position: 

As a DIGNITY MHPSS Technical Advisor, you will: 

  • Provide MHPSS support to clinical activities in the MENA region (in close collaboration with DIGNITY’s International Programs Clinical Team). 
  • Work to ensure quality assurance of program delivery in line with the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines on MHPSS
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of efforts – by DIGNITY and its partners – to determine and adjust approaches as needed in the four DAPP focus countries (including neighboring countries, if appropriate). 
  • Support the tracking, compilation, and analysis of key indicators and outcomes for regional  MHPSS programming. 
  • Support DIGNITY’s local partners in the implementation of their MHPSS programs, (including any activities undertaken by external contractors). 
  • Facilitate access to learning and knowledge exchange between relevant actors working within this context (including ‘south-south’ training). 
  • Provide guidance on staff-care / prevention of burn-out. 
  • Support DIGNITY’s (MENA) Country Offices in setting up, and maintaining, staff well being policies and practices (e.g., peer-to-peer staff support). 
  • Conduct supervision for partners. 

The MHPSS Technical Advisor will be based in DIGNITY’s country office in Tunis and will maintain a close working relationship with colleagues in the other MENA country offices. Furthermore, he/she will frequently communicate and collaborate with colleagues based at DIGNITY’s International Programs department in Copenhagen.

The Technical Advisor will also have working relationships with DIGNITY’s other departments, (i.e., Legal and Health). Overall MHPSS/rehabilitation strategic policy and guidance will be provided by clinical and management staff based at DIGNITY’s headquarters in Copenhagen. 

The position will require travel to the DAPP focus countries. Total travel-time will amount to approximately one month per year (or one week per quarter).

Required Qualifications & Experience: 

  

The ideal candidate will possess, and be able to demonstrate/discuss: 

Essential Criteria: 

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related mental health field. Minimum of 5 years of ’practitioner’ experience within their specific profession (of relevance to MHPSS service provision). 
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience concerning staff-care and burnout prevention. Previous experience delivering training and/or supervision in an organizational setting. Strong inter-personal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a 

diverse and inter-disciplinary group of colleagues, and a wide range of stakeholders (e.g., representatives from State institutions; civil society organizations). 

  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to work in multi-cultural environments. 
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills. 

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Licensure/registration for independent clinical practice. 
  • Experience with MHPSS in emergencies. 
  • Experience in delivering MHPSS-specific training and supervision. 

Language Skills: Fluency in oral and written Arabic and English is required; French language skills will  be considered an advantage

Position Reports to: DIGNITY Country Director. 

Technical supervision: Director International Programs (DIGNITY HQ Clinical Team)

Other Internal/External Contacts: MHPSS Program Manager; MHPSS Project Coordinators; External  Consultants.
