About DIGNITY 

DIGNITY’s vision in the MENA region is to reduce the number of victims and people at risk of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment (CIDTP), and other forms of violence such as gender based violence (GBV), and to increase the number of victims accessing reparation of these human rights violations. A central aspect of DIGNITY’s work is to secure the right to rehabilitation for victims by improving access to quality trauma informed Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). 

DIGNITY has been working in the MENA region, and more specifically in Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan (4 focus countries under the Danish Arab Partnership Programme/DAPP) for the past 15 years. Throughout this period DIGNITY has supported its civil society partners to provide MHPSS and emergency support. This is to be continued throughout 2022-2027 including the embedding of MHPSS in the public health sector, where appropriate. 

About the position: 

As a DIGNITY MHPSS Technical Advisor, you will: 

  • Provide overall MHPSS guidance to clinical activities & quality assurance of programme deliveries in line with the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Guidelines on MHPSS, including supporting monitoring and evaluation of efforts to determine and adjust approaches as needed in the four DAPP focus countries, including neighboring countries, if appropriate 
  • Support in coordination of tracking, compilation and analysis of key indicators and  outcomes for MHPSS programming 
  • Support DIGNITY partners in the implementation of their MHPSS programmes, including under DIGNITY contracts 
  • Facilitate access to learning and exchange of experience between clinicians working in the context, including south-south training 
  • Provide guidance on self-care / prevention of burn-out 
  • Support Country offices in coordination with Dignity HQ in setting up and maintaining in house well-being policies and guidelines including peer to peer support among staff members 
  • Conduct supervision for partners 

The MHPSS Technical Advisor will be based in DIGNITY’s country office in Tunis/Amman and will have a close working relationship with colleagues in the country offices as well as colleagues in the International Programmes department based in DIGNITY’s Copenhagen headquarters. The Technical Advisor will also have working relationships with DIGNITY’s other departments, notably our Legal and Health departments. Overall MHPSS/rehabilitation strategic guidance will be set by DIGNITY headquarters. 

The position will require travel to the DAPP focus countries. Total travel-time will amount to approximately one month per year (or one week per quarter).

Required skills 

  

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related mental health field; licensure for independent clinical practice preferred 
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant MHPSS experience 
  • Knowledge on burnout prevention among direct service providers 
  • Experience with MHPSS in emergencies is considered an added value 
  • Experience with MHPSS training and supervision is considered an added value Excellent oral and written communication skills (in Arabic and English; French is considered an added value) 
  • Strong inter-personal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse and inter-disciplinary group of colleagues, and a wide range of stakeholders including representatives from State institutions to civil society organizations 
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in multi-cultural environments 
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills. 

Language Skills: Fluency in both oral and written Arabic and English is required; French language  skills will be considered a bonus.
