ABOUT THE ROLE

The MENA Language and Communications Coordinator oversees coordination and timely delivery of translations for Amnesty International’s MENA Regional Office. The role promotes the integration of Amnesty’s language strategy at regional level and acts as the single point of contact for all Arabic and MENA-related language requests for the whole of the International Secretariat.

As part of the Language Resource Centre you will coordinate the daily work of the Arabic Translation Team and prioritize items for translation in line with Amnesty International’s goals and the MENA communications strategy. You will also build, maintain and manage a network of freelance translators and editors.

As part of the MENA Communications team you will also provide strategic advice on Arabic language messaging for campaigns and communications projects and provide linguistic support for some Arabic social media outputs.

This is a fast-paced role and is an exciting opportunity to join a regional team working across several locations to deliver high quality translations in a smooth and efficient manner.

 

JOB PURPOSE

To lead on all aspects of MENA languages and strategic planning, coordination and delivery at Amnesty International. As a member of the MENA Communications team, provide language expertise and communications support to MENA staff, including copy-editing of materials originated in Arabic and some translations. To feed into the Language Resource Centre strategy to ensure it is aligned with local, regional and global requirements.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • You will be a fluent Arabic speaker with impeccable grammar and an eye for detail. You will have a background in translation, ideally with experience of coordinating language services within the human rights or NGO sector.
  • You will be confident taking the lead and working independently, in an often changing and fast-paced environment to meet multiple deadlines. You will be a fast learner who is proficient in translation technologies and software and has a high level of IT literacy.
  • You will also be a skilful negotiator, able to build solid working relationships with teams based in multiple locations across the MENA Regional Office and the wider global organization.
  • You will have some experience of working in a communications environment and an insight into Arabic-speaking audiences across MENA. You will be passionate about Amnesty’s work and interested to learn more about human rights issues in the MENA region.
