BACKGROUND

The USAID-funded Visit Tunisia Activity is a 5-year project designed to enhance Tunisia’s tourism potential, with the goal of generating revenue and jobs, particularly for women and youth, and for populations in underserved regions of the country. The overall vision behind USAID’s investment in Tunisia’s tourism sector is to capitalize on Tunisia’s natural, cultural, heritage and historical sites to develop a more diversified and high-quality tourism sector that contributes to broad-based economic growth. Through this activity, USAID seeks to contribute to Tunisia’s growth and development to offset the negative economic impact of the coronavirus crisis. The project will seek to achieve the following four objectives:

  • Objective 1: Enhance Tunisia’s competitiveness as a tourism destination;
  • Objective 2: Increase tourism-related investments and revenue;
  • Objective 3: Improve the enabling environment for sustained growth in the tourism sector;
  • Objective 4: Private sector engagement to expand the offer and quality of alternative tourism.

This project will collaborate with the relevant ministries, private sector, and donors to advance the objectives while contributing to the following high-level results:

  1. Increase in the number of tourists.
  2. Increase in the number of jobs in the tourism sector.
  3. Increase in tourism revenue.
  4. Increase in private sector-led investment and innovation in the tourism sector.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Junior Marketing Specialist will work closely with the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager on communication and marketing efforts that support the digital marketing of the tourism industry to advance the work of positioning, promoting and selling Tunisia as a diverse, compelling, desirable and year-round destination targeting high-yield traveler and alternative tourism segments. The specialist will be responsible for technical, external-facing communication and marketing pieces for both the project and tourism stakeholders. S/he will also provide writing support for project-level reports and communication with USAID.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support businesses in the tourism sector to develop sophisticated online marketing and social media promotion capabilities
  • Support brand development work at the national, regional and firm level
  • Serve as liaison for local partners in the tourism industry including hotels, restaurants etc.
  • Collaborate with market research firms to develop an in-depth understanding of target markets for Tunisia
  • Contribute to communications campaigns design and development
  • Support development of brand partnerships, including outreach to potential brand partners and management of partnerships
  • Support development of travel trade partnerships with tour operators, travel agents, wholesalers etc. in key markets, including outreach, partnership development and management
  • Support trade activities, such as FAM Trips, Education programs, etc.
  • Contribute to Visit Tunisia’s public relations work, including overseeing partnerships with international and domestic public relations and branding firms
  • Support the design as marketing toolkits for tourism firms in Tunisia
  • Conduct marketing training for tourism suppliers in Tunisia as needed.
  • Support project reporting, liaising with other technical team members as needed

REPORTING:

The Junior Marketing Specialist will report to the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager.

LEVEL OF EFFORT AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

This position is long-term, on a full-time basis.

LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

This assignment will be based in Tunis, Tunisia with potential travel to regional locations pending project needs. The office maintains a five-day work week. Overtime is not authorized.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Advanced degree preferred in communications, marketing, media, or related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in digital marketing and social media, ideally in tourism or related field
  • Familiarity or experience with domestic marketing, international marketing, and travel trade marketing (i.e. tour operators) preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with search engine optimization; social media advertising and in-bound marketing
  • Solid knowledge of website and social media analytics tools
  • Strong knowledge and experience with latest trends of digital and social marketing, communication and online tourism sales channels and mobile applications
  • Experience working with a diverse team of employees and consultants
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, pro-activeness, and creative problem-solving
  • Experience working with international donors;
  • Strong writing skills
  • Fluency in English, French, and Arabic is required.
