Summary of Program:

The Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program launched in 2013-2014 and is designed to build the workforce capacity of a diverse group of youth leaders from across all regions of Tunisia. The program provides participants with a deeper understanding of American culture and new globally-applicable skills and expertise to help them contribute to the economic growth and development of their country. The Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and implemented by IREX.

Summary of Position:

IREX seeks a qualified professional to fill the position of Program Assistant (Temporary) for the Thomas Jefferson Program in Tunisia from October – December 2015. The position is based in Tunis, Tunisia with some travel throughout the country. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Answer daily phone calls and emails
  • Provide logistics/arrangements support
  • Translate program-related documents (English, French, and Arabic);
  • Promote the program in the eligible institutions, social media and cultural centers.
  • Provide assistance on facilitating and leading outreach and recruiting events
  • Meet applicants to explain the programs and give out the needed information
  • Provide a full range of administrative program support to the acting country director and the senior program manager;
  • Assist with filing systems and copying of materials;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Exhibit understanding, patience, and a positive attitude for working with youth and parents. Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to develop effective working relationship with staff, students and parents.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; preference for studies in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing/ Advertising, Business or Public Administration, or similar field;
  • Responsible relevant work experience; previous experience working in educational program is preferable.
  • Must have proficiency with MS Office suite;
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required
  • Must have the ability to effectively prepare and present information to various groups.
  • The ability to work independently or with others to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision is essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Administrative skills
  • Experience managing social media
  • Strong command of spoken/written English, French and Arabic.

Working from the office is mandatory
