Job Description
The International Legal Foundation (ILF) was established in 2003 as a non-governmental organization headquartered in New York. The ILF works to assist governments around the world develop more effective legal aid systems to ensure that poor and marginalized people have equal and prompt access to quality legal representation. Established in 2015, ILF-Tunisia is a branch office of the ILF. ILF-Tunisia works to support the Tunisian government’s efforts to establish a criminal legal aid systems that provides quality, effective criminal defense services to the poor.
ILF-Tunisia is seeking a Translator to work with our Tunisian lawyers and our visiting New York employees and volunteer international lawyers. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in law, rights of the poor and marginalized, or generally how small non-profit organizations work.
The essential responsibilities for this position are:
- Provide high quality translation and interpretation between English, Arabic and French in legal and government related fields
- Conduct research and draft memorandum on issues related to the justice sector
- Engage in outreach to community based programs
- Conduct interpretation for ILF program staff and international experts at meetings and events with justice sector actors
- Work effectively with ILF-Tunisia international staff, experts and fellows
- Travel to other regions within the country, if needed.
- Work full time, 5 days per week
- Work within the required deadlines as established by ILF program staff
Critères d'éligibilité
- University Degree in English Language preferred.
- Written and oral mastery of both English and French languages.
- Previous experience in translation from Arabic into French or English.
- Previous experience in interpretation from Arabic to English and French to English.
- Experience in using computers and office software (MS Word, Excel, Skype, etc.).
- Ability to move around Grand Tunis ( Ariana, Ben Arous, Manouba and Tunis).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong sense of organization and attention to details and deadlines.
- An expressed commitment to the mission and objectives of the ILF.
