Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Information Management Specialist to serve as the regional lead for the management of quantitative data for the Mixed Migration Centre West Africa and North Africa.

About the job

The Mixed Migration Centre engages in data collection, research, analysis and policy development on mixed migration in West Africa and North Africa. Our primary objectives are to fill the knowledge gap on mixed migration in the region; to inform programming for refugees and migrants, particularly in the area of protection; and to inform policymaking around the rights and protection of people on the move. MMC’s flagship data collection project 4Mi currently operates or plans to operate in Mali, Niger, Guinea, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, and Morocco. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Lead on the management of 4Mi data: ensure maintenance of the data collection platform, and that data is safely stored and shared, well organized and retrievable, that data protection guidelines are met, and that quality is assured;
  • As regional focal point for 4Mi information management, work with the regional 4Mi Project Managers in West Africa and North Africa as well as colleagues across the 4Mi network to develop information management tools, and to improve information management and data processing standards for 4Mi (such as data management SOPs);
  • Ensure the regular availability of clean datasets for the region and for global use: export data in appropriate formats, and lead on the validation and cleaning of 4Mi data;
  • Revise the coding of the 4Mi Core survey as required and contribute to the development of new surveys and modules;
  • Train and provide ongoing technical support to 4Mi enumerators;
  • Contribute to the quantitative analysis data of 4Mi data using relevant software applications such as Excel, STATA, R and/or Python in support to the Research agenda;
  • Conduct quantitative analysis and develop written and visual material for use in presentations, on the MMC website, in 4Mi snapshots, and other products;
  • Lead on the development of knowledge products based on quantitative analysis including dashboards and snapshots;
  • Develop and adapt tools for tracking data quality, survey targets, enumerator feedback, and other data points to support effective information management;
  • Provide technical line supervision, guidance and support to the Information Management Assistant/Officer, in the event additional Information Management staff are recruited in the region.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be responsible for leading data checks, cleaning, validation, storage and supporting analysis of the 4Mi data. You will also serve as a key expert on quantitative data management and visualization, developing tracking and survey tools and drafting research products based on quantitative data. Contributing to better use of data, you will also provide support on data collection and management trainings, support with monitor network supervision, support the team with administrative tasks, among other responsibilities. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • At least three years of experience working in quantitative research;
  • Demonstrated experience in data management, cleaning, validation, storage;
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic data collection procedures and solutions (ODK, Kobo, Qualtrics, ONA, SurveyCTO…);
  • Demonstrated experience in the training in data collection teams;
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the development of survey and administrative tools;
  • Fluency in English and French.

Desirable

  • Experience in GIS theory and GIS software (including QGIS, ArcGIS, CARTODB…) is an asset;
  • Experience in quantitative analysis highly desired including the use of relevant software applications (Excel, STATA, SPSS, R, Python…) is highly desirable;
  • Experience in data visualization applications such as PowerBi is desirable;
  • Demonstrated understanding of current mixed migration debates and dynamics in the region is an asset;
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs is an asset;
  • Fluency in Arabic is an asset.

Contract length: 6 months renewable subject to funding

Band: Non-manager G1
