FHI360 is currently recruiting for the position Translator for the organization’s USAID Tunisia Resilience and Community Empowerment (TRACE)/ Ma3an program, which will increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability and violent extremism (VE). Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Job Summary

Provides translation, transcription and interpretation services in support of the organization’s global mission. Translates technical documents from English/French to target language and/or from a target language to English/French and edits others’ translations to ensure a high level of quality. Corrects mis-translations, terminology errors, and grammar/syntax. Develops knowledge of international development and ensures compliance with style guidelines. Reviews and proofreads documents for localization. Collaborates with country teams to ensure that all translations adhere to the style, content, and formats used by the organization’s employees. Ensures effective planning of timelines to meet deadlines for publications, documents, and other materials

Essential Job Functions: Duties and Responsibilities

• Translates a wide variety of technical documents from English to target language and/or from a target language to English, ensuring consistency of terminology, tone, and adherence to style guidelines. These documents may contain difficult, idiomatic, and scientific writing
• Researches legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation; liaises with internal team and others to discuss any unclear points; proofreads and edits final translated versions.
• Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
• Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check quality of translation
• Prioritizes work to meet deadlines; consults with experts in specialist areas; retains and develops knowledge on specialist areas of translation.
• Assists staff with interpreting during phone calls or meetings; participates in and contributes to team meetings.
• May review audio/video material and write/transcribe information with a high-degree of accuracy and expression; have an excellent understanding of one or more regional dialects
• Ensures simultaneous and consecutive translation as well for meetings and as needed
