Search in Tunisia

Search for Common Ground (Search)’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) promoting peace education; (ii) fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (iv) transforming violent extremism. More information about our Tunisia program can be found here.

We are searching for… Search – Tunisia will implement in partnership with PORTICUS the six-month project Be Feya9 – Wake Up, Connect, Engage”. We will target 20-30 interested and dynamic youth (youth influencers) from local areas (Gafsa, Sousse, Sidi Bouzid, Greater Tunis, Bizerte, Medenine, Zaghouan, El Kef, and Siliana) who have some digital skills and are able to engage with influential networks online. Search will target the young influencers on social media with some degree of following wherever possible. The selection will be based on the following criteria: leadership, reach, creativity, analysis skills, and engagement online and on social issues. Search will ensure equal representation of men and women and other minorities so that influencers are able to authentically address and influence a diverse audience.

In terms of the involvement of the target youth, Search will provide capacity-building support based on information needs identified during the mapping exercise, ongoing coaching and mentoring, and incentives to pilot positive youth engagement narratives on social media. In addition, tech-savvy experts, companies, and consultants will be engaged throughout the project to support the social media mapping activity and a consultative process leading to designing and testing a pilot on addressing online political polarisation and fostering positive online youth engagement. Search will also leverage its partnership with Talkwalker, a social media monitoring platform that delivers social insights helping to understand online data.

The wider group of young people will be exposed to youth influencers who are positive role models for engaging across divides to effectively promote positive civic engagement. The activities will impact wider young audiences and encourage them to participate in social media pilot activities or to understand the negative effects of misinformation on civic activism and engagement.
