Summary of Position

The Communications Specialist III will be responsible for leveraging their previous experience in the international development, humanitarian aid, or social impact sectors to successfully execute the accountabilities required of this position. This entails being embedded in the project team to successfully produce and disseminate promotional materials to share project achievements. Further, this individual will be responsible for addressing both donor and internal FHI 360 communications needs. They will focus on developing and delivering clear, concise and coordinated organizational messaging across multiple communications vehicles and on fostering opportunities for dialogue between the beneficiaries, donor, and FHI 360 staff. The Communications Specialist III will work across all communications platforms, including email, website, social media platforms and company intranet, and will serve as project manager for assigned projects, ensuring quality and smooth production from start to finish of project. Additionally, the expectation is for this position to coordinate meetings and events as needed.


  • Creates and manages content and disseminates a broad range of communications that promote the project activities, both internally and externally.
  • Responsible for the effective management of the project’s communications plan and branding and marking plan.
  • Attends all events and frequently accompanies SURFF technical team to the field, to engage with beneficiaries to reflect social impact.
  • Provides publicity and promotional support for special events and community outreach activities, specifically supporting awareness campaigns targeting beneficiaries.
  • Develops and implements communications and public relations strategies to promote and publicize the SURFF project.
  • Prepares a variety of promotional and informational materials including articles, bulletins, websites, pamphlets and other related media material; to be shared with/available for the donor, FHI 360 HQ, and SURFF project team
  • Serves as liaison with local and international media to prepare press releases and establishes and maintains relationships with the media.
  • Coordinates with the donor to fulfill specific communications-related requests.
  • Provides consultative review and editing to internal customer’s communications to ensure accuracy and clarity of message and tone.
  • Applies understanding of business/organizational operations to improve material’s depth and relevance to target audience.
  • Develops internal newsletters, memos, and intranet content for the company.
  • Coordinates approvals and dissemination e-newsletters, and e-mails, as well as updating project information on social media.
  • Coordinates, develops and manages the creation and dissemination of videos and documentaries.
  • Participates in design and development of communications materials that are responsive to the needs of the company’s domestic and international staff, as well as the donor.
  • Plans a variety of internal meetings to ensure successful communication of organizational messages and opportunities for dialogue.
  • Responsible for managing the scope of work (inclusive of developing concept notes, reviewing and approving proposals, and supervising progress) and relationship with outsource companies (i.e., event management firms, videographers, photographers, etc.) to guarantee the success of project events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work closely with and provide support to executive staff.
  • Highly responsive to internal and external requests.
  • Knowledge and experience in communications related to international development, humanitarian aid, or social impact.
  • Sensitive to cultural differences and the political and ethical issues associated with international health and development work

    communications team leadership.
  • Makes independent decisions based on experience and knowledge of company policies, procedures and operations.
  • Decisions made generally affect own job or specific functional area.

Supervision given/received:

  • May have supervisory responsibility.
  • Receives instructions on new assignments.
  • Reports to a Manager, Associate Director or Director.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor\'s Degree or its International Equivalent in English, Journalism, Public Relations or Related Field.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of writing, editing, and external publications experience.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent Arabic, English, and French
  • Prior experience working for an international non-governmental organization (INGO), or in the humanitarian, development or social impact sectors.
  • It is expected the Communications Specialist III will travel domestically, 25-50% of the time.
