New Tactics Field and Training Development Officer

Location: Based in Tunisia

Summary of the job:The New Tactics Field and Training Development Officer position is expected to lead the implementation of the New Tactics Strategic Effectiveness Method capacity building and mentoring processes in Tunisia; coordinate all training and mentoring activities with partner organizations to ensure high quality;support the monitoring, evaluation and documentation processes of New Tactics’ training and mentoring activities and partners’ advocay initiatives; represent New Tactics Program in Tunisia; and support partnership development with civil socty organziations and different actors for program outreach and impact. This position focuses on training and empowering local organizations to learn, use and apply the New Tactics Strategic Effectiveness Method in their human rights advocacy efforts.

1. Capacity Building Training Program implemention and coordination in Tunisia

  • Lead the advocacycapacity building implementation of the New Tactics strategy in Tunisia, with a focus on training development including:
  • Maintain relationships with current New Tactics Strategic Effectiveness trainers and their organizations in order to best manage and coordinate their deployment for the NT Tunisia capacity building training and mentoring processes
  • Implement training activities to build and coach a network of New Tactics Strategic Effectivenss trainers in Tunisia
  • Support the development of new opportunities/mechanisms for trainers to improve and share their skills, questions and learnings.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with key human rights organizations in MENA to further New Tactics outreach and training opportunities in coordination with MENA Initiative Manager.
  • Deliver and ensure high quality New Tactics Strategic Effectiveness trainings and mentoring processes:
  • Develop and implement a process for personal capacity building to become fully versed in New Tactics Strategic Effectiveness Method and resources to ensure capability to co-train and provide mentoring/coaching feedback to others on the Method.
  • Design and carry out all face-to-face and virtual training activities for partners, selected organizations, ToT trainees and potentially others.
  • Develop and coordinate logistical and operational plans for all training communications, logistical and operational needs (e.g., travel arrangements).
  • Documentation, Assessment and Evaluation on country level of achievements:
  • Coordinate with partners and co-trainers in documentation and reporting of the training/mentoring processes to assess trainees and their application of Strategic Effectiveness method to campaigns in Egypt.
  • Submit monthly reports on progress, challenges and implementation concerns, assessment reports, mentoring progress reports and follow up activities.
  • Support the implemention of partnership monitoring reviews and evaluations of training and mentoring processes.
  • Develop case studies for replication/adaptations that can be utilized for training and publication in coordination with MENA team.
  • Document impact for case study development and application to training and advocacy replication/adaptations.
  • Provide on-going assessment, evaluation and recommendations for continuous improvement in techniques, materials and to improve the quality of New Tactics training and mentoring standards.

2. Online Integration and Development of Training Materials

  • Assess, develop and design MENA appropriate New Tactics training materials, tools and modalities for online utilization (e.g., inclusion of MENA examples in training materials and resources, multi-level and audience module and format development).
  • Develop innovative online exchange ideas to develop the New Tactics MENA program as a major reference for HRDs in the region.

3. Partnerships and Outreach:

  • Represent the New Tactics MENA Initiative in Tunisia to contribute towards consolidating and raising the profile of New Tactics MENA Initiative within Tunisian human rights advocacy and capacity building organizations.
  • Support and maintain current partnerships; and advance outreach development.

4. General Administration

  • Participate in regular New Tactics MENA team meetings (virtually).
  • Participate in MENA and HQ New Tactics meetings (virtually)
  • Provide support to the MENA Program Manager and other duties and responsibilities assigned to further the goals of the Initiative.


  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree with 3-5 Years of experience, or a Masters degree in Human Rights, Adult Education, International Affairs, Humanities and Social Science or related field preferred with 2 – 3 years of experience designing and delivering capacity building programs and training workshops.
  • Training Experience: Implementing training programs with direct experience in facilitation and stand-up training delivery (Highly desirable: understanding and experience in designing and developing human rights training curriculums and training systems; training experience in multi-country or inter-regional settings).
  • NGO experience (Highly desireable: direct human rights advocacy experience). Experience working cross-culturally is an asset.
  • Experience coaching adults in the development of training sessions, written materials and/or training materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in Arabic; and demonstrated ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with individuals at all levels. (See “Additional highly desireable skills” – multiple language proficiency below)
  • Skilled at working as a member of a team with demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements, trainee needs, and political climate.
  • Computer skills, including experience with MS Office software, email, skype, internet and desktop publishing.

Additional highly desirable skills:

  • Experience with New Tactics 5 Step Strategic Effectiveness Method will be considered a significant asset Experience in building the capacity of other trainers (ToT)Languages:Required: fluent in Arabic (NOTE: English proficiency is highly desireable. French proficiency required.
