Duties & Responsibilities : 

Reporting to the Executive Director of CMES and working closely with colleagues at CMES, serve as the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard’s  public-facing representative in Tunisia, fielding inquiries from the general public, local academics, government officials, vendors and the media. Serve as one of the two local Tunisian representatives for the legal registration of the Tunisia Office, and in that capacity represents the Harvard Tunisia Office in the execution of various legal documents, as authorized signatory, in consultation with CMES and Harvard Global.

  • Manage all business aspects of the Tunisia office, including financial, legal, security, communication and public relations.  Assist with the preparation of Office’s annual budget, initiates financial transactions, monitors expenses and reconciles the local bank account. Purchases supplies and materials necessary for the running of the office, pay lease, utilities and local vendors as necessary to support the Tunisia Office’s academic programs. The office manager will work closely with Global Support to ensure security, legal, and regulatory compliance, tax reporting, and financial matters. The Office Manager will work closely with staff at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies on establishing appropriate administrative policies and procedures.
  • Researches locations and activities for student programs in Tunisia, including finding housing, arranging transportation, contracting with museums and archives, and arranging for receptions, workshops, and conferences. Accompanies students on organized tours and events while they are in Tunisia.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate tools to track project and program performance, provide reports to the Center for Middle Eastern Studies in Cambridge, and perform monitoring and evaluation functions.
  • Set up and maintain an electronic presence for the Tunisia Office including a webpage, Facebook, and other social media. Develop brochures, and other promotional and informational materials in collaboration with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies communications coordinator.
  • Post proposals for student travel (3x per year) and faculty sabbatical opportunities (annually) and manage the application process in collaboration with staff at CMES.
  • Book student and faculty airfare to/from Tunisia through HU travel vendor and process invoices and reimbursements related to student and faculty travel expenses.
  • Retrieve archival documents for faculty members and graduate student researchers.

  • This position is located in Tunis, Tunisia at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University’s Tunisia Office.
  • Candidates should be eligible for employment sponsorship in Tunisia. Offers are conditional on a signed employment agreement issued by Harvard Global or its affiliates and may require a pre-employment background and reference check.
  • This position is with Harvard Global Research and Support Services, Inc., an affiliate of Harvard University, and may be eligible for benefits. Critères d'éligibilité

  • A minimum of three years' experience in office management, finance, and/or communications.
  • The ability to read, write and speak English, Arabic and French are required for this role, as it is based in Tunisia but must work seamlessly with the CMES office in Cambridge.
  • A background in Middle Eastern Studies ( concentrating on anthropology, history, or history of art & architecture) or Islamic Art and Architecture very desirable as is a working knowledge of archival field research.
