Terms of Reference (ToR) for University Clubs, Associations, and Youth Organizations 

Debate Our Rights 

1. About The Munathara Initiative

The Munathara Initiative is pleased to launch “Debate Our Rights – نتناظر من أجل حقوقنا”, a national project that aims to empower young people in Tunisia through human rights education, debate, critical thinking, and civic participation.

The project seeks to strengthen a culture of dialogue, promote human rights values, and provide youth with practical advocacy and public speaking skills while amplifying their voices through national media platforms.

We invite university clubs, youth organizations, civil society organizations, and associations from all 24 governorates of Tunisia to nominate groups of young people to participate in this unique national program.

2. Project Objectives

The project aims to:

  • Promote knowledge and understanding of human rights.
  • Develop debate, public speaking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Encourage youth participation in public affairs.
  • Foster constructive dialogue and respect for diversity.
  • Increase the participation of marginalized and underrepresented youth.
  • Create opportunities for youth voices to reach the wider public and decision-makers through media.

3. What Does the Project Offer?

Participation in the project is completely free of charge.

Selected participants will benefit from:

A. Online Training Programme

Each participating organization will have access to two online training workshops:

Workshop 1

Introduction to Human Rights

Workshop 2

Debate, and Public Speaking

Topics include:

  • Debate methodology
  • Argumentation
  • Public speaking
  • Persuasive communication

B. Regional Debate Competitions

Following the training, participating teams will compete in one of four regional debate tournaments covering:

  • North Tunisia
  • Greater Tunis
  • Central Tunisia
  • South Tunisia

C. National Championship

Winning teams from each regional competition will qualify for the National Debate Championship in Tunis.

D. Media Experience

Finalists will participate in professionally produced public debate and radio programmes recorded in public spaces, offering participants the opportunity to engage with wider audiences and decision-makers.

4. Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to:

  • University clubs
  • Student organizations
  • Youth organizations
  • Local associations
  • National civil society organizations
  • Human rights organizations
  • Community-based organizations

Organizations from all 24 governorates of Tunisia are encouraged to apply.

5. Eligibility Criteria

To participate, organizations must:

  • Nominate a group of at least 20 young participants.
  • Ensure participants are between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Commit to ensuring participants attend the online training sessions.
  • Support the participation of their members throughout the project.
  • Be willing to form debate teams composed of three participants per team during the competition phase.

The project particularly encourages applications involving:

  • Young people from marginalized communities.
  • Youth from inland and underserved regions.
  • Underrepresented groups and minorities.
  • Young women and diverse youth leaders.

6. Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Organizational commitment.
  • Ability to mobilize participants.
  • Geographic diversity.
  • Inclusion of marginalized youth.
  • Motivation to promote dialogue and human rights.
  • Commitment to complete all project phases.

7. Timeline

Selected organizations will participate in:

  1. Online Human Rights Training
  2. Online Debate Skills Training
  3. Regional Debate Competition
  4. National Championship
  5. Media Production Activities

Detailed schedules will be shared with selected organizations.

Interested clubs, associations, and organizations should complete the application form before the deadline.
