Job Purpose:

The Technical & Facilities Officer based in our North Africa hub will ensure the efficient operations of all office services including IT and security, training and studio facilities in Tunis. They will monitor equipment use and manage video material in production and post-production processes. The person will also be responsible for ensuring that the work facilities meet the needs of the organization and its employees. This role is based in Tunis and reports to IT & Facilities Manager, North Africa.

Contract length: Two months from starting date (with possibility of extension subject to funding).

Main Duties: 

The Technical & Facilities Officer, North Africa is responsible for:

  • Managing equipment, ensuring it is complete and working.
  • Logging use and return of equipment by trainees, staff and consultants.
  • Managing workflow of video material through the production process.
  • Checking that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and following up on any deficiencies.
  • De-rig all equipment at the end of the broadcast or production and ensure it is safely transported away from the location and/or stored.
  • Maintaining the lighting equipment in good safe working condition.
  • Ensuring the efficient allocation of meeting rooms.
  • IT support and troubleshooting: Windows, printing, Office365, browsers, other applications.
  • Coordinate all installations (telecommunications, heat, electricity etc.) and refurbishments.
  • Ensuring the safe and efficient running and allocation of the studio spaces.
  • Ensuring that all facilities meet both local regulation and BBC standards including health, environmental and safety/security.
  • Ensuring health & safety requirements of the operational area to which the operator is allocated.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn to operate new technology systems and to be able to adapt to different working methods.
  • Demonstrate editorial awareness and a commitment to BBC values and objectives.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Graduate with a relevant technical degree, e.g. Computer Science/Broadcast Engineering/Media Production etc
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a production/broadcast environment; dealing with Windows and iOS computer systems; experience in facilities and logistic works.
  • Understanding and interest in broadcast/production practices and workflows.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to priorities a busy workload.
  • Procurement and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritise your workload.
  • Time management skills.
  • Team work skills and the ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Advanced IT Skills, Office 365.
  • A practical, flexible and innovative approach to work.
  • Able to work in English, Arabic and/or French.
  • Intermediate understanding of computer networking.
  • Editorial Judgement - Demonstrates balanced and objective judgement based on a thorough understanding of BBC editorial guidelines, target audience, programme and department objectives. Makes the right editorial decisions, taking account of conflicting views where necessary.
  • Managing relationships – Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people. Works co-operatively with others to be part of a team. Values individual's differences and demonstrates a commitment to knowledge sharing and informal learning, for the benefit of the team.
  • Experience living and working in North Africa or the Middle East, ideally in the development and/or media field.
