Facilitation and Conflict Mediation Experts

Kebili and Tataouine

 

Background

The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is implementing the “Promoting democratic space for marginalized communities in oil-producing areas of Tunisia” project with funding from the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF). The four-year project aims to support a peaceful democratic transition in Tunisia by bridging the gap between the government and marginalized oil-producing communities in Tataouine and Kebili and seeks to empower local CSOs to adequately represent local community demands while holding the government accountable, therefore promoting sustainable and constructive dialogue. As part of this project, NRGI built on its existing partnerships and programming in Tunisia and has been working on establishing and improving the capacity of two networks of CSO actors in Tataouine and Kebili to undertake an effective mediating role between local communities and street-level activists and the government through a series of workshops and training.

Purpose of the Call

Capacity Building component is one of the core pillars of this project. Through a series of training workshops, NRGI aims to foster the skills and knowledge of CSOs to improve their operational standards and efficiency to fulfil a mediating role between government and street-level demands in marginalized oil-producing communities.

NRGI is looking for experienced experts to lead two workshops and provide an in-depth and hands-on training to CSOs on facilitation and conflict mediation skills. The training is expected to equip CSO beneficiaries with the knowledge and tools to effectively engage in and facilitate dialogues between local communities and street-level activists and the government, particularly in Tataouine and Kebili regions.

Consultancy Responsibilities and Deliverables

The expert will be guided by NRGI to deliver the following:

  • Conducting 2 training sessions (preparation, presentation, and follow-up):
  • A first training: 1 Day for Kebili Network: 23 September 2023 in Sousse
  • A second training: 1 Day for Tataouine Network: 30 September 2023 in Sousse
  • Involve participants in interactive exercises, role-plays, and case studies to apply the learned skills in real-world situations.
  • Guide the participants in developing action plans for conflict mediation, keeping in mind the unique challenges of their local contexts.
  • Developing a pre- and post- test to evaluate participants knowledge, attitude and skills before and after the training, participants’ feedback, and recommendations for future trainings.
  • Delivering Training materials (it must be sent after each training to be transferred to participants)

Critères d'éligibilité

  • It is expected that the expert will possess the following qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field including communication, conflict resolution, facilitation etc.
  • Proven experience in facilitation and conflict mediation, particularly within the context of civil society.
  • Experience in delivering interactive, practical training sessions.
  • Solid knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of civil society actors in conflict mediation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Capability to lead interactive exercises, role-plays, and case studies.
  • Experience in creating and implementing action plans for conflict mediation.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector in Tunisia as well as of the related issues the region.
  • Experience working in/on Kebili and Tataouine. .
  • Attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines
  • Fluency in Arabic and French required.
