The British Embassy in Tunis is looking to recruit a full-time Economic Officer. Working at the British Embassy offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to grow professionally while collaborating with a talented group of individuals.

Main Purpose of Job

  • To manage the implementation of British Embassy projects in the economic sector. 
  • To provide analysis and report on the Tunisian economy and economic policies for the British Embassy and UK government departments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project management – To develop coherent and effective high performing Tunis projects, in co-ordination with Embassy colleagues.  To manage effective oversight and quality control of projects through liaison with implementing partners and beneficiaries, including visiting project sites. Support implementers in narrative reports in accordance with agreed deadlines, including monthly updates, project quarterly and completion reports. Collaborate with the Finance Manager to develop high quality financial reports.
  • Provide analysis and reporting on Tunisian economy and economic/financial issues to inform Embassy policymaking.
  • Represent the Embassy at economic meetings and other events both with Government institutions and International Financial Institutions.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of contacts with international donor community as well as civil society organisations to strengthen co-ordination and complementarily of UK activities.
  •  Carry out other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, arrangements for official visitors, providing written briefings for HM Ambassador and senior officials on project activity, and providing effective back up to cover absences within the programme team if required.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00 am to 16:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. 08:00 – 13:00 on Fridays.

The British Embassy in Tunisia offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role. Initial salary will be TND 3412 per month while on probation. Salary after probation is TND 4224

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90 day probationary period.  The appointment is also subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics or a related discipline [Essential]
  • At least 4 years experience in project management.  [Essential]
  • Previous experience as economic officer in financial institution, think tank or industry.  [Essential]
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written in English and French.  [Essential]
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  [Essential]
  • Understanding national and local political/ economic climate [Desirable]
  • Previous experience of working in an international organisation/Embassy [Desirable]
  • Previous experience of financial management [Desirable]
