Ms. Bourbeau will read a mix of poems and 100-word stories, many of which use the backdrop of nature’s cycles to look at events in the U.S. and the world, as well as the personal impacts of both. She will also introduce participants to the six-word memoir. Come ready to write your first six-word memoir and to share with the group!
• About the poet:
Heather Bourbeau’s fiction and poetry have been published in 100 Word Story, Alaska Quarterly Review, Cleaver, Duende, Eleven Eleven, Francis Ford Coppola Winery’s Vendetta Wine Chalkboard, Nailed, Open City, The Stockholm Review of Literature, and various anthologies, including Nothing Short Of: Selected Tales from 100 Word Story and I Just Wanna Testify: Poems About Detroit Music (Michigan State University Press). Her piece “Hopscotch” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She was a finalist for the Randall Jarrell Poetry Prize, a Tupelo Press 30/30 poet, and the winner of the Pisk! Poetry Slam. Her journalism has appeared in The Economist, The Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy and The New York Times. She was a contributing writer to the New York Times bestseller, Not On Our Watch: A Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond with Don Cheadle and John Prendergast.
