Evidence on the work and reception of actresses all around the ancient Mediterranean world is widely scattered between literary, documentary, iconic, and material sources, and across centuries of change in popular musical and theatrical performance. American professor John Starks will provide an overview of the source materials, assembling them to answer some questions and raise others about the widespread interest in women’s appearances in comic, dramatic, musical, and dance productions for stages and audiences of all sizes.
