About IFES Tunisia

The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is an international, non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organization engaged in the field of electoral technical assistance throughout the world. It has been working in Tunisia since February 2011. IFES assists the Tunisian authorities in organizing free, democratic and transparent elections through electoral assistance programs (www.ifes.org).

The IFES Tunisia program aims to strengthen the capacity of electoral institutions to administer credible local elections that reflect the will of the people; better inform youth and marginalized communities about local elections and decentralization; encourage youth civic engagement at the local level and promote meaningful participation of all citizens in their political systems, including women, youth and other traditionally marginalized groups.

Overview:

IFES launched two initiatives that address the grand public and youth:

• The International Day of Democracy (IDD): In 2007, the UN General Assembly decided to celebrate the International Day of Democracy (IDD) on 15 September each year in order to promote and defend the principles of democracy. In 2016 and in 2017, Tunisia celebrated the International Day of Democracy following the IFES initiative with various local and international partners.
• The Hack4Democracy camps (H4D): The H4D camps is an original initiative created by IFES. It is a hybrid concept between the camps for democracy and the Hackathons, which aims to put the latest technological advances at the service of local democracy and the commitment of young people. Through, for example, the creation of smartphone applications, free software and creative projects. Young people were asked to develop useful, practical and innovative services linked to municipalities. The H4D camps are both regional and national competition that resulted in 50 projects and 200 participants coming from all over Tunisia.

Two websites created under WordPress were launched in support of these two separate initiatives. IFES seeks to ameliorate all aspects of the websites for future use and upgrade them.IFES seeks to recruit a web developer who will work on improving and upgrading both websites in order to better their performance and usage. A short-term contract, part or full time (depending on availability), will be offered. The period of service is expected to be around three months.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief of Party, the web developer will:

• Conduct a brief design and technical diagnosis to determine the areas of improvements for the websites
• Propose improvements and upgrades for IFES validation
• Resolve technical bugs
• Improve the layout, design, internal structure, user experience, security of the websites
• Harmonize the website versions in French and Arabic (International Day of Democracy)
• Limk websites with data analysis tools (Google analytics or other)
• List the key words associated to the websites and work on ameliorating their Search engine optimization (SEO)
