Together with 5 WWF offices in the region, WWF Mediterranean has launched the Mediterranean Marine Initiative, a common strategy aiming at scaling WWF conservation efforts in the basin.
WWF Mediterranean North Africa represents WWF Mediterranean in North Africa. Its mission is to promote the conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Mediterranean region. The North Africa Marine Programme aims at scaling up the number and effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas and at transforming North African fisheries towards sustainability by strengthening the role of small-scale fishermen.

Role summary

The WWF Project Officer-Marine will provide support to the implementation of WWF Mediterranean North Africa marine programme, integrated in WWF Mediterranean Marine Initiative. She/he will be responsible for the coordination of Marine Protected Areas, Fisheries, and wildlife conservation projects in North Africa.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the implementation of field/country projects in WWF North Africa’s country of operation;
  • Conducting field missions in Algeria, Tunisia and other North African countries in accordance with project workplans;
  • Designing, planning and facilitating workshops;
  • Engaging public and private stakeholders to facilitate project implementation;
  • Identifying, contracting and liaising with external consultants;
  • Supporting field project’s teams and partners in implementing and delivering on workplans, reports, monitor progress on budget allocation and spending;
  • Contributing to project development;
  • Ensuring that WWF standards, procedures and guidelines are respected and complied with;
  • Supporting MMI regional projects and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Additional information

  • This is a 1-year position with the possibility of extension.
  • The selected candidate is expected to start no later than February 19, 2018.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • At least 3 years of work experience; (Required)
  • A university degree in marine science, fisheries management, natural resource management or other related fields (Required)
  • Experience in ecosystem based management, small scale fisheries, marine protected areas and integrated ocean management, (Required)
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate with individuals from a variety of disciplines, cultures and backgrounds; (Required)
  • Experience in managing projects and budgets; (Required)
  • Capacity to engage with public authorities and private stakeholders and address participatory management processes; (Required)
  • Ability to work under tight and multiple deadlines (Required)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Arabic, French and English. (Required)
  • Working experience in an international context; (Desired)
  • Working experience in North Africa; (Desired)
  • Familiarity with marine conservation stakeholders in the region; (Desired)
