Position title: Freshwater Program Manager, WWF North Africa
Directly and technically reports to: North Africa Director
Location: WWF-North Africa, in Tunis
I. Major Function
The WWF Freshwater Program Manager leads and coordinates the development and management of WWF sub-regional freshwater program, including strategy implementation, staff supervision, project development, fundraising, etc.
The Freshwater Program Manager is WWF’s spokesperson in the N.A. region on issues related to WWF freshwater strategy.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises the development and implementation of WWF N.A. freshwater program in the region, including strategy development, implementation and monitoring;
- Ensures that activities and projects contribute to WWF MedPO strategy;
- Acts as the WWF spokesperson in N.A. in relation to freshwater related issues; with the agreement of the WWF North Africa Director
- Researches and identifies funding opportunities and priorities to develop WWF’s freshwater program portfolio in N.A.;
- Contributes to develop project concepts and proposals;
- Monitors sub-regional policy processes and establishes, together with N.A. Director, any strategic directions or WWF engagement in such processes.
- Builds the relationship and dialogue with public authorities on freshwater related issues, sharing our vision and work and strengthening strategic relationships as needed.
- Builds relations and partnerships with civil society and the public and private sector as necessary for the development and implementation of WWF freshwater strategy in N.A.
III. Leads and manages freshwater projects in N.A.
- Supervises the implementation of all freshwater projects in N.A., including the development of annual work-plans, staff supervision, partnership development, monitoring and reporting
- Prepares the quarterly technical reports as well as monitors progress;
- Supports project’s teams and partners in implementing and delivering results by :
- Providing direct technical support,
- Identifying the most suitable technical experts to assist them and organizing their missions in the pilot sites,
- Facilitating workshops/meetings,
- Providing access to specific technical/scientific knowledge,
- Reviewing Tors or other technical reports,
- Any other technical support that might be asked by the local coordinators;
- Creates synergies among projects, disseminates results and lessons learned in collaboration with communication units;
- In collaboration with the Administration units, monitors progress on budget allocation and spending;
- Conducts missions in the project’s sites and/or in other countries in accordance with the project’s needs with the coordination of the NA Director.
- Ensures that WWF standards, procedures and guidelines are respected and complied with.
III. Other duties
- Works closely with WWF North Africa Director leader in defining strategic directions, identifying opportunities and in scoping out donors and funding opportunities;
- Scopes opportunities for corporate fund raising in N.A. and develops relations in close collaboration with WWF North Africa Coordinator.
- Contributes to WWF MedPO development, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
IV. Working Relationships
He/she nurtures stable working relationships with WWF teams and partners including governments, NGOs, provincial and national administration. He/she cultivates a supportive and cooperative working relationship with WWF-MedPO staff and works in collaboration with other relevant WWF offices in the region as appropriate.
IV.1 Internal
- WWF-MedPO: Interacts, engages and supports (when necessary) with the MedPO staff in Rome and the local teams in Zagreb and Tunis, represents WWF NA, calls and meetings.
- WWF Network: Interacts with the freshwater teams of other WWF offices
IV.2 External
- Interacts with relevant partners at international, regional and national levels.
V. Reporting and Travel
- Reports to the North Africa Director and lease with the other WWF MedPo staff to ensure coordination, integration and information sharing within the network;
- Upon agreement with the North Africa Director, attends WWF meetings and training courses as required;
- Upon agreement with the North Africa Director, undertakes travel and missions aimed at the effective undertaking of all the above-mentioned duties,
