VGIF provides small grants up to $7,500 USD to grassroots projects that are led by women and that help empower women and girls, in developing countries around the world. Funding for our project grants come from our members’ donations and bequests, and from our investment income. Over the years, VGIF has set up several board-designated funds to address specific challenges faced by women and girls. For more details, see VGIF Funds.
Empowering women to make a difference in their lives and communities is helping to change the world. To this end, VGIF has funded over 475 projects in 89 countries since 1969.

VGIF supports organizations that are governed and directed by women; organizations in developing countries, including the emerging democracies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, that address issues such as:

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All interested applicants must complete this first step of the application process. You will not be asked to submit a completed VGIF application if we have not received a completed Letter of Intent.
VGIF only accepts LOIs at certain times of the year and they must be entered through our application system. The dates of the LOI process are listed on our website here. The 2014 LOI is available starting June 1st, and the deadline to submit an LOI is July 31.
No. At this time, VGIF is only able to accept a Letter of Intent and any applciation materials written in English.
Beginning June 1st, you will be able to create an account to submit an LOI, and at that time you will be able to review the template.
No. VGIF will only accept one Letter of Intent per organization per funding year.
VGIF does not accept unsolicited applications. In order to be asked to submit an application you must first submit an LOI online (as described above.) If your LOI is approved, VGIF will invite you to apply for funding.
The budget amount requested from VGIF must not exceed $7,500 USD.
VGIF does not fund salaries. VGIF will consider inclusion of an amount, not to exceed 10% of the total grant, for administration of the project to the executing organization in the country where the project is located.
