THE ORGANIZATION
The United States Institute of Peace is an independent quasi-federal institution established and funded by the U.S. Congress to:
- Prevent and resolve violent international conflict;
- Promote post-conflict stability and development;
- Increase peace building capacity, tools, and intellectual capital.
The Institute accomplishes its mission through direct engagement in peace building efforts around the world, and by empowering others with knowledge, skills, and resources.
SUMMARY
We seek a person to serve as the Regional Program Specialist (RPS) to support the United States Institute of Peace Middle East and North Africa Program. The RPS should be based in Tunisia, and able to travel throughout the region as needed. The Program Specialist supports the MENA Regional Facilitators Forum program through high-level support for program management, planning, budget, administrative support, and monitoring; making substantive contributions to meeting program goals and objectives.
This program management position is supervised by the Regional Program Officer- North Africa and the Director for MENA, and requires an in-depth knowledge of transitional peace-building and of the region in general.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In summary, the RPS will:
- Serve as a representative of USIP to local and national government bodies, local and international actors, the UN agencies, donors, the United States Government, and other relevant parties in line with USIP’s mission and values.
- Contribute to the Institute’s understanding of conflict-related issues in the MENA region, as well as the conceptualization and design of USIP programs and the identification of grant opportunities.
- Provide all necessary logistical and administrative support for the successful implementation of program projects and activities in an efficient and effective manner.
- Plan and support program-related travel of Washington-based and local USIP staff in the MENA, including making appointments, attending meetings and providing interpretation as required.
- In conjunction with security advisors in the field and in Washington, DC, assist in the management of USIP’s security profile of the Institute in the MENA and maintain a high level of security awareness/preparedness at all times.
- Manage and monitor USIP expenditures and disbursements in the field following approval from Program staff and Project Leads.
- Ensure effective and meaningful coordination with the US Embassy and other international actors when appropriate.
- Prepare and disseminate timely reports to USIP-DC and to other entities as appropriate.
- Manage, implement, and build capacity for a program to establish the MENA Regional Facilitators Forum, working with local partners and the MENA management team.
- Travel across the MENA region to coordinate the implementation of the day-to-day operation of the program. In collaboration with all program partners, staff, and project leadership, help manage events and activities in the field, including workshops, dialogues, and conferences for the MENA Regional Facilitators Forum within the MENA region.

This position is subject to the availability of funds. The initial term of the position will be determined subject to the availability of secured funding, and is eligible for renewals based on continued funding.
All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
