The U.S. Embassy is seeking applicants for the 2016 Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders on Civic Engagement. This undergraduate level, five-week academic program provides students with an overview of how citizens have shaped U.S. history, government, and society both as individuals and groups. The Institute encourages participants and their American peers to create innovative and practical plans to become engaged citizens in their own communities. The coursework examines the development of civic engagement in the U.S. and explores topics such as:
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates should be undergraduate students or have at least one semester left of their undergraduate studies and be between 18 and 25 years of age.
They should demonstrate interest in civic engagement and strong leadership qualities and be active in their university and community activities. Applicants should be proficient in English and have a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations.
