Nature of Engagement: Consultancy – 3 months
Title: Economic Researcher
Line Management: Deputy Country
Representative – Tunisia
Inputs: Part-time

Context of the Role:
Expectation State is a purpose driven company, committed to tackling the toughest problems in Emerging States.
We provide a different approach to private sector development in our focus countries, offering a specialist vehicle to
increase the quantity and quality of investment emerging states attract.
Our largest geographic focus is currently Tunisia, but we also have ongoing interests in Jordan and Lebanon. Our
communication, however, has a global audience, as we seek to change the policy and practice of how emerging
states are supported.
Expectation State is becoming increasingly active in the release of research and analysis. We have developed an
online research platform that aims to provide insights, analysis and research pieces related to countries where we
are operating and themes of an interest to our work. This aims to build ES influence and outreach within the
investment ecosystem and decision makers.
We are currently supporting the Tunisian government to respond to the COVID-19 economic crisis across a range of
areas related to investment and private sector development. In this context, a Private Sector Support Unit has been
launched by the Tunisian Ministry of Investment, Development and International Cooperation to respond to investor
concerns and gather data in order to nurture a long term vision of investment growth. To deliver this, a rich and
diversified research pillar will support planning solutions to the economic crisis, through a private sector lens, and
prepare a recovery plan for investment in Tunisia.

Role:
■ You will help us build a deeper understanding of the social and economic impact of the crisis and suggest
models for recovery in Tunisia.
■ You will be responsible for delivering good quality economic studies that explain the impact of the
COVID-19 crisis on the Tunisian private sector.
■ You will be asked to deliver in-depth analyses of currently prioritised sectors and industries in Tunisia, and advise on sector opportunities.
■ You will provide short and targeted research to support policy research and recommendations.
■ You will also be responsible for designing, planning and assessing other research projects around investment and
the private sector.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Strong experience of producing research on economic development and investment related topics. You should be able to extract solid policy recommendations from research and offer practical suggestions based on that research.
  • You should be able to produce high quality, accurate economic assessments.
  • Comfortable looking beyond GDP as a measurement of success, and understand the value of pursuing increasingly inclusive growth and ultimately social impact.
  • You will work with a group of junior and senior researchers and advisors from different backgrounds and disciplines.
