Context:  

BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development organization, uses the power of media and communication to inform, connect and empower people around the world, helping them to shape their own lives. Working with broadcasters, governments, other organizations and donors, BBC Media Action provides information and stimulates positive change in the areas of governance, health, and resilience and humanitarian response. 

Our work in North Africa covers Algeria and Libya, with our office based in Tunisia. Current projects include capacity building of the Algerian media to create youth sensitive content and provision of content that improves Libyans’ access to information and encourage debate and participation in Libya’s transition through the El Kul Facebook page.

Freelance Consultancy Purpose and requirements:

• Translate Reports, publications workshops and conference information material, of which may include PowerPoint Presentations, Concept Notes, Situation reports, Working Papers, Agendas, etc.…
• Translate official correspondence to and from respective counterparts.
• Translate public information materials, of which: thematic newsletters, info-sheets, and brochures, press releases, audio-visual products etc.
• Translate any other content necessary from French to English and vice versa, or from English to Arabic and vice versa, upon request.
• The translator/interpreter has an experience in ZOOM and the digital platforms. 
• The translator/interpreter is well equipped with the necessary interpretation equipment’s.

Proofreading and Editing:

Be responsible for proofreading and editing where necessary.

Design and Layout:

Ensure design and layout of translated documents correspond to the design and layout of the original, Arabic, English or French documents as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in translation with good knowledge of sociological and political terminologies.

Experience:

• Experience in written translations and proofreading in all three languages: Arabic, English, and French, for clients such as research institutes, human rights organizations, international organizations, translation services or others.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office.
• Knowledge of InDesign software is preferable.
• Prior work experience with BBC Media Action would be an advantage.

Languages:

• Fluency in English, French and Arabic (oral and written) is required.
• Additional languages are welcomed (Tamazight, German etc.,) 

Illegibility:

• The candidate can be an individual or an establishment.
• Having an accreditation in translation is compulsory.
