REPORTS TO: Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager, North Africa BASE: Tunisia (Possible remote work depends on the evolution of the sanitary situation)

DURATION: 3 weeks

 TYPE of contract: Consultancy / full-time

Our North Africa operations are based in Tunis. From there we deliver a portfolio of media projects, and work to ensure they are delivered on time, to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with BBC editorial values and BBC Media Action best practice.

 

Overall Purpose of the mission

 

The Training Assistant ensures the smooth delivery of the logistics of the planned training and mentoring activities for BBC Media Action in North Africa. This is a key position that focuses on coordinating the day-to-day running of the online scheduled courses. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an interest in learning, training, coordination, international development, and media for development.

The main role of the Training Assistant is to work closely with the project team, trainers’ pool and participants and BBC Media Action staff to support the delivery of the scheduled training programme (in person or virtual depending on the sanitary situation of the country). This includes     coordinating the day-to-day logistics and all communications with participants and the HR departments of our partners (from enquiry through to post course follow up).

 

Main duties and accountabilities:

  1. Coordinate the day-to-day logistics of the scheduled in-person training or online training course if needed.
  2. Be responsible for the preparation of the training logistics in person or using Zoom platform and being comfortable  using breakout rooms and other techniques for effective training and small group discussions if it is online.
  3. Coordinate and circulate through the training rooms to answer questions, give assistance if needed and monitor the discussions in the training room or within the Zoom chat for online meetings.
  4. Prepare the Logistic notes and send it to the participants before the event.
  5. Be responsible for setting up the Zoom application or Microsoft Teams for participants who have difficulties and are not familiar with using it, this includes updating and setting up instructions, uploading course materials if needed.
  6. Ensure effective preparation before and during course implementation including liaising with trainers to ensure course materials are shared with participants.
  7. Develop a training report by the end of the training session
  8. Answer e-mails and phone enquiries about scheduled training course and forward e-mails and enquiries about other services to BBC Media Action management team.
  9. Be the first point of contact for enquiries about scheduled training or online training.
  10. Provide and ensure effective communication with the participants before, during, and after the training and prepare attendance sheet.
  11. Ensure collecting feedback surveys and participants’ list for M&E and R&L purposes
  12. Other duties assigned during the consultancy including translation of training materials.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • At least one-year experience of planning and delivering trainings within the Middle East / North Africa region
  • Preferable experience in BBC Media Action or equivalent
  • Professional-level knowledge of software including the MS Office suite and videoconferencing
  • Experience in organising events such as seminars, workshops, or conferences
  • Efficient and organised with good attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, French and Arabic
  • Ability to translate sentences and invitations from English to French and Arabic
  • Excellent IT and formatting skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, to multi-task and coordinate between multiple partners/stakeholders and BBC Media Action.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of/ interest in the media landscape in North Africa, particularly in Tunisia.
  • Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience: Managed and organized complex trainings or online training courses with interpretation. Online training in contexts of low bandwidth and with trainees with limited digital literacy. Experience living and working in North Africa or the Middle East, ideally in the development and/or media field.
