THE ORGANISATION:
Established in 1984 in the UK, Islamic Relief is an international NGO seeking to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development activities.
Islamic Relief provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender and without expecting anything in return. Islamic Relief has been working in Tunisia since 2011, when we supported refugees fleeing violence in Libya as well as host Tunisian communities primarily as a response to the influx of refugees during the Libya Crisis. Since registering an office in Tunisia in 2012, Islamic Relief has set up and managed camps on the Tunisian border and provided humanitarian services to over 15,000. As well as supporting refugees Islamic Relief has implemented projects in health, water and sanitation, food security and education sectors as well as supporting capacity building of local associations
PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT:
The MEAL Department is responsible for establishing, managing and improving Programs Quality systems including evidence based progress verification, capture learnings across activities implementation, demonstrate accountability and impact measurement at program Level to meet IR Strategic objectives.
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the MEAL Coordinator, and in collaboration with project staff, as part of the MEAL team, The Technology &Information Management and learning Assistant Trainee will help to operationalize and improve the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning system, which heavily relies on a well-managed projects database.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Has regular contact with Program team, MEAL Team , volunteers and labors.
SCOPE AND AUTHORITY
Scope of the Role:
Under the direct line management of MEAL coordinator. the role holder will play a pivotal role to assist in harmonizing cross Programs MEAL processes including Data Collection, Analysis and Automation and Management. Work on supporting Islamic relief Tunisia Program team and Meal Team to regularly collect/ enter/ verify/analyze/ data and make timely database adjustments to measure the impact of Islamic relief programs. The Position Holder will directly work with the MEAL Coordinator, will also closely coordinate with M&E Assistant Trainee, Project staff in the field to ensure proper data Management procedure are in Place.
Responsibility for Resources:
The Technology & Information Management and learning Assistant (Trainee) will assist the MEAL Coordinator in strengthening the Office Digital Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning system

Responsibilities and scope of duties
Under the supervision of MEAL Coordinator, the Technology & Information Management and learning Trainee will
- Support in the Design of the Monitoring & Evaluation (DM&E) system including database management and innovation
- Generate data (tables/graphs/reports) from the database at regular intervals, ensuring reports/information are available for program implementation staff when required. Facilitate data analysis with program implementation team as requested
- Review or edit data in reports and required based on Feedings from M&E Assistant trainee and Program Team as requested
- Produce analytical summaries: graphs, charts, and tables as requested to fulfil reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned and agreed upon
Objective 1: Contribute in strengthening Office MEAL system
Support in the Design Monitoring & Evaluation (DM&E) system database management and innovation
- Understand, maintain and Support in innovating M&E system databases (MIS) that improves Islamic relief ability to inform program implementation, analyze data, and represent impact to donors, government, and communities themselves.
- Ensure all relevant program staff are able to utilize the database to analyze program information and results Design, adapt and maintain the MIS in conjunction with the MEAL Coordinator to match strategic programs or implementation changes
- Support MEAL Coordinator in Providing training in use of database, pivot tables and pivot charts to Program staff members that require it, or support on exporting to MS Excel for data analysis
- Assist the MEAL Department in Ensuring that the database is accurate and accessible for Senior Management staff
- Review data being entered in the database regularly jointly with the M&E Assistant Trainee, in order to locate and fix problems with data entry or integrity
- Document system database contents, protocols and update manuals for smooth functioning
Objective 2 Demonstrating accountability to affected populations
Support in Implementing M&E System and Tools
- Work as part of the MEAL team to facilitate and support M&E tasks including baseline, annual, and end line surveys, regular monitoring, data collection and analysis, feedback and reporting according to the MEAL PLAN and IRW Meal Frame work
- Generate data (tables/graphs/reports) from the database at regular intervals, ensuring reports/information are available for program implementation staff when required. Facilitate data analysis with program implementation team as requested
- Conduct regular field visits to ensure all elements of the M&E system and database are being utilized effectively by all stakeholders, assessing and identifying breakdowns and areas that require clarifications and improvements
Maintain Accountability to Beneficiaries
- Islamic relief team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work as defined in the Core Humanitarian Standards CHS, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.
Objective 3 Organizational learning and capacity building:
Staff Training and Capacity Building
- Work closely with MEAL Coordinator to develop and deliver staff/partner trainings, improving capacities in monitoring and evaluation and database management: including not limited to data collection, entry, verification and analysis; and other identified needs
- Follow up on trainings by mentoring staff/partners to develop identified technical skills one-on-one
Objective 4 Support to Country management
Link M&E Results to Reporting
- Review or edit data in reports and required based on Feedings from M&E Assistant trainee and Program Team as requested
- Produce analytical summaries: graphs, charts, and tables as requested to fulfil reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned and agreed upon
TRANSVERSAL
- Comply with IR Tunisia Protocols including Child protection /Safeguarding Policies in the field
- Actively participate in relevant learning, MEAL, strategic or programs workshops and meetings;
- Participate in assessments in support of program teams when requested by M&E Coordinator
- Identify challenges for the MEAL department, report and suggest continuously rooms of improvements based on the findings of M&E activities
- In case the Trainee has translation skills, she/he contribute to speaking and writing translations for any MEAL document that requested by his/her manager, including but not limited to translation of survey, IEC tools, presence during recruitment or meetings (internal or external)
Reporting
- Prepares periodical report detailing Disaggregated Data needed for reporting
- Foster good relationships and team spirit with program and operations staff in the field
- Perform any other M&E tasks assigned by the M&E Coordinator or his/her supervisor
Data Protection
- Ensure compliance with ICT Policy, Data protection Procedures and all relevant security procedures and policies as determined by IRW /Tunisia Office.
- Proactively ensure that team members are aware of data management policies.
Notes: Interns receive a 500 TND taxable monthly stipend to cover his or her living expenses for the Internship duration
