Project Background:
The USAID Fiscal and Accounting System of Tunisia (FAST) Project supports the Government of Tunisia (GoT) to improve public financial management. FAST focuses specifically on enhancing and upgrading the government’s public financial management information system (PFMIS) to increase the efficiency, transparency, and predictability of public finances. The project strengthens the government’s capacity to carry out fiscal, budgetary, and revenue collection mandates and advances electronic services to optimize regulations, procedures, and authorizations that reduce the cost and time burden on businesses, facilitate investment and trade, and promote innovation. Finally, FAST works to strengthen communication between policy makers and the public to build a common understanding of the constraints to, and opportunities for, economic expansion.
Purpose:
Upon request, the Translator will interpret oral communication and translate written communications, reports and documentations from and into Arabic, French and English. He/she will translate written correspondence and facilitate interviews and other forms of oral communication between the project staff and their counterparts.
Responsibilities and Key Tasks:
- Translate accurately and concisely documents, correspondence and other materials from English to Arabic/French and from Arabic /French to English for the purpose of providing translation and interpretation for the project staff and their counterparts. Documents and correspondence include but are not limited to reports, letters, memoranda, emails, pamphlets, agreements, advertisements and training material.
- Interpret oral communication from Arabic /French into English and from English to Arabic /French. Types of oral communication include but are not limited to, meetings, workshops, conferences, telephone calls and messages, in-person interviews, and community forums.
- Accompany project English-speaking staff in field visits to partner institutions to facilitate communication.
- Serve as an interpreter for a variety of functions (e.g. meetings, workshops, conferences, special events, etc.) for the purpose of providing interpretation for the project staff and their counterparts.
- Take meeting notes when requested for technical meetings, workshops, etc.
- Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, typewriter, computer and assigned software; operate translating equipment;
- Perform a number of other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.
Qualifications:
- At least 6 years of professional experience in translation and interpretation.
- Bachelor’s degree in English language, Translation, Interpreting or similar field.
- Previous experience with translating USAID reports and documentation is highly recommended.
- Excellent command of French, English and Arabic languages (written and spoken).
- Good knowledge in Finance and accounting technical term
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors.
- Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus.
- Knowledge of translation and interpretation techniques.
- Ability to manage work schedules to meet deadlines.
- Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated and able to multi-task.
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with project staff and counterparts.
- Time-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
