The State University of New York is the largest comprehensive university system in the United States with 414,000 students enrolled in 6,400 fields of study on 64 campuses.  SUNY/CID implements technical assistance projects, conducts research, and contributes to both the theory and practice of international development.

Job Opportunity Description

The State University of New York / Center for International Development (SUNY/CID) is accepting applications from candidates for Project Officer positions on upcoming donor-funded international development programs in Tunisia. Applicants must have prior international development experience and a background in the field of governance. Project Officer will be based in Tunis and will be assisting with implementation of development programs working with Tunisian government, academic institutions, international organizations and civil society institutions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Help plan, organize and coordinate training seminars, workshops, consultancies, technical collaborations and any other technical activities as directed by SUNY. Participate in conferences, meetings, and workshops as needed.
  • Establish good working relationships with Tunisian government, partner organizations, other donor/aid organizations working in the country (multilateral banks, UN, etc.)
  • Coordinate international technical experts and/or teams work in Tunisia.  Support and monitor performance of technical assistance provided by consultants.
  • Manage everyday workflow as directed by SUNY Project Director, with adequate follow up, utilizing problem solving skills and following protocols and procedures as set by SUNY. Accordingly, the incumbent will have excellent organizational and people skills.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Knowledge of and experience implementing development programs, experience in governance sector or working with governmental bodies or CSOs preferred;
  • Political acumen and cultural sensitivity;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (e-mail, phone, reports, public speaking);
  • Understanding of and ability to communicate clearly program activities and issues of local and regional politics;
  • Knowledge of international development and donor community;
  • Master’s degree in political science, public administration, public policy, law or economics preferred;
  • Previous work experience involving administrative work and event planning;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic languages required; French language proficiency is an asset;
  • The incumbent will be a team player, and comfortable working with others, and have excellent representational and diplomatic skills.
