1. The organisation:

Hilfswerk International (HWI) is one of Austria’s leading organisations for development cooperation and humanitarian aid in developing countries. We provide both, long-term international development assistance as well as humanitarian aid for victims of conflicts and environmental disasters. Our mission is to combat poverty and hardship in developing countries through the promotion of economic and social development intended to lead to a process of sustained economic management and growth, linked to structural and social change. We strive for structural poverty alleviation in our programs and projects which are implemented in close cooperation with local HWI mission offices and local civil society organizations.

Our programming focuses on social protection and inclusion of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups (i.e., people with disabilities, former inmates or probationers, children etc.). We respect the culture, history, traditions and customs of the communities and countries where we are active. We provide help for all people regardless of their heritage, gender or their religion. 

2. Vacancy and objective of the position:

For our project “Sports for Peace and Social Inclusion – Sports activities for disadvantaged children for sustainable peace building in Ettadhamen, Tunisia” we are looking for 3 sport trainers/coaches. A detailed description of competencies, responsibilities and tasks can be found in section 4. The project aims to empower 100 children through pedagogically guided sports activities during the upcoming school year 2021/2022 in order to promote and strengthen social cohesion among the children through inclusive, peace- and community-building sports activities, thereby also helping them to cope with the consequences of marginalization and poverty, as well as promoting their health.

 

The sport trainers/coaches are appointed by the Country Manager of HWI in Tunisia. The appointment is based on a consultancy employment contract and its annexes (Code of Conduct, Anti-Fraud & Corruption Policy) which form an integral part of the HWI employment framework and is limited to the time frame provided within the employment contract.

 

3. Chain of Authority:

  1. a) Line Management:

The Sport trainers/coaches are directly responsible to the Country Manager of HWI in Tunisia. 

 

  1. b) Instructions – Coordination

Tasks and responsibilities of the sport trainers/coaches are instructed, supervised by and coordinated with the Country Manger in Tunisia and the Regional Manager in Vienna.

 

  1. c) Reporting

The sport trainers/coaches report to the Country Manager in Tunisia and, if required, to the Regional Manager for Middle East and North Africa in Vienna. For detailed reporting procedures please see section 5.2.

 

4. Responsibilities and tasks:

4.1 General responsibilities and tasks

The Sport trainers/coaches are responsible for planning, organising and delivering an appropriate range of sports activities and programmes for students (6-11 years old / boys & girls) in 3 public schools in Ettadhamen – Ariana. Tasks will include the following:

 

  • Teaching relevant skills, tactics and techniques related to sport activities (football, basketball, volley-ball and hand-ball)
  • Monitoring and enhancing performance by providing tuition, encouragement and constructive feedback for students
  • Developing training programmes
  • Assisting with sports promotion/ development
  • Conducting weekly sport training sessions followed by discussion groups on specific topics agreed on after coordination with the Country Manger
  • Coordination with the local schools, parents, public administrations and stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the project activities

 

4.2 Project Management responsibilities and tasks

  • Maintain the full documentation of the project in Ettadhamen incl. presence sheets/ photos/ invoices etc.
  • Report on a weekly basis on the activities conducted in the schools
  • Conduct surveys with the students in the three schools
  • Be the focal point of HWI with the school officials and all the involved stakeholders
  • Undertake the necessary administrative tasks
  • Provide internal narrative reports of the project partners according to the agreed time schedule with the Country Manager
  • Implement and use of HWI project management tools and standards included in HWI manual

 

5. Key skills for sport trainers/coaches :

The sport trainers/coaches must provide the following:

 

  • University degree from the Higher Institute of Sport and Physical Education
  • Physical fitness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with delivering trainings to young students is desired
  • Fluent in Arabic and French, English will be an asset
  • Be resident in Ettadhamen – Ariana or the neighbouring delegations
